What Is the Latest Patch?
Update 1.4.0, out October 1, 2026, is the biggest patch since launch. Per VICE's coverage and Remedy's own announcement, it adds New Game++ ("an infinite number" of replays, per PSU) alongside combat adjustments, performance fixes, and a thick stack of quality-of-life changes. If you are returning to the game after a break, this is the patch that reshaped it — the New Game Plus guide has the full carryover rules, and NG++ takes the loop further still.
Day-One Patch
The launch-day hotfix's most player-felt change was that Reset Items became easier to get — the items that undo weapon, ability, and talent choices went from scarce to obtainable, per Polygon's prologue guide. That mattered immediately for anyone second-guessing the prologue's three picks: once Reset Items are flowing, an early mistake in the best weapons choices or the talent tree is recoverable rather than permanent.
Hotfix 1.3.3 — The Combat Friction Patch
Aimed squarely at how difficult the game feels. Per Remedy's support page (PS5 build 01.300.300) and the r/controlgame patch-notes thread:
- Enemy base health reduced.
- Falter (stun) requirements reduced — the execution loop covered in the combat guide triggers faster.
- Dylan's combat strength increased.
Remedy's framing: the changes make combat more dynamic, retain the challenge, but reduce the friction of upgrading. In practice, the best talents feeding the execution-Dominance loop got a tailwind — the same build ideas play better now than they did on day one.
Update 1.4.0 — New Game++ and the Big QoL Pass
Per VICE and the IGN wiki's mirror of the patch notes:
- New Game++ — the headline feature, enabling repeat cycles beyond a first New Game Plus run. The same update also reduced combat in the Unknown Zone.
- Combat adjustments and rebalancing across the board, following up the 1.3.3 friction patch.
- Performance fixes — including over-saturated HDR highlights in the AgX tonemapper.
- Improved player interactions with sliding and parkour across a range of objects.
- Dozens of QoL improvements, UI updates, and bug fixes — Remedy's own post called it a big one with many, many fixes.
One caveat worth knowing before you update: Forbes' Paul Tassi noted the flip side of the patch — it still missed a much-needed addition he had been looking for. Check his piece before assuming a specific desired fix landed.
Where to Track Future Patches
Three sources, in order of authority:
- Remedy's support pages (remedy.helpshift.com) — the official notes for every update, straight from the developer.
- SteamDB — the full version history of the Steam build, including silent hotfixes that never get their own announcement.
- The IGN wiki — mirrored patch notes with community annotations.
This page updates with each patch. If a quest is misbehaving on your current build, check here first — for instance, The Complete Set bug was fixed in 1.4.0. For purchase-decision context, the state of the game at review time lives on the review hub, and Remedy's launch and post-launch timeline page carries the roadmap dates.
