FAQ
Is Jesse Faden in the game? Yes — she is the story's driving absence. Jesse, still FBC Director, goes missing as the Manhattan crisis peaks, and the Search for Jesse questline (the Jesse Sightings) sends Dylan through the Dimensional Faults looking for her. She appears in person in the finale.
Is Jesse playable? No — Dylan Faden is the sole playable protagonist. The Search for Jesse missions are about finding her, not playing her.
What happens to Jesse at the end? (Major spoilers) In the final fight against the Hedron, Dylan falls — and Jesse appears and sacrifices herself to save him. The ending leaves Dylan alive and Jesse unconscious, mirroring Control's ending where Jesse saved a comatose Dylan.
Who is Jesse Faden?
Jesse Faden is the protagonist of Control (2019): the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, wielder of the Service Weapon, and the woman who ended the Hiss invasion of the Oldest House — played by Courtney Hope in the original. Her whole story started with the Ordinary incident in her childhood, the paranatural event that took her brother Dylan into FBC custody. CONTROL Resonant reverses the siblings' positions: in the first game Jesse rescued Dylan; in the sequel Jesse goes missing as the new crisis peaks, and Dylan's entire journey is the search for his sister. She is the story's anchor precisely because she is absent from it.
The Search for Jesse, mission by mission
The game's second questline — Jesse Sightings — is the search itself. Three standalone missions send Dylan into the Dimensional Faults:
- Jesse Sightings: The Incursion Fault (West Incursion Zone) — unlocks Shift; also the gate before the Dancer fight. See the Incursion Fault quest page.
- Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault (Evacuation Zone) — unlocks Reach, the grapple.
- Jesse Sightings: The Underpass Fault (Underpass).
These faults are not optional flavor: the traversal abilities they grant are required to progress the story, and the walkthrough flags where the main missions hard-require them. Catching Jesse's trail is also how Dylan's own paranatural abilities grow.
What happens to Jesse (major story spoilers)
In the finale, Dylan fights the Hedron — and loses. Per the community's reading of the ending (Reddit's spoiler discussion, ResetEra's spoiler thread, ending-explained coverage): Jesse appears and sacrifices herself to save him. The game ends with Dylan alive and Jesse unconscious — a deliberate mirror of Control's ending, where Jesse saved a comatose Dylan from the Hiss. Fan debate continues on the details — whether Jesse teleported herself, what the Patterning and the Hedron actually did — but the sibling-reversal structure is the reading essentially every ending explainer agrees on.
