Overview

The first mission in the Search for Jesse questline. The West Incursion Zone is full of Patterning — something is going on there beyond the chaotic state of the rest of the city. The mission starts automatically when you enter the West Incursion Zone and try to progress into the main part of the area, and it must be completed before the West Incursion Zone Resonant boss can be reached. Its reward is Shift, the gravity ability the rest of the game is built around.

Walkthrough

Investigate the Vision of Jesse

On entering the area, head toward the Parking Garage marked on the map.

Find the Key to the Parking Garage

The garage door is locked — find the key. Go to the new search area to the south-west; on the street there is a "WEAR'EM & WASH'EM" shop with a locked door. Go beside it into the alley, run behind it, and enter the door near the laser shooting at the ground. Interact with the floating body inside to obtain the Parking Garage Security Key.

Use the key on the parking garage door, then take the elevator inside. On the rooftop, go to the middle and jump down the hole, falling all the way to the bottom.

Enter the Fault

At the bottom, jump across the gap and interact with the TV to enter the Fault.

Find and Talk to Jesse

Inside the Fault, follow the path in front of you — Jesse stands just past a vehicle. Speak with her.

Help Jesse Complete the Ritual

You now have the Shift ability: press L1/LT to change gravity and stick to ground surfaces that have been changed into walls or floors. Continue along the path and interact with the TV to spawn the next area. Where the ground is above you, jump and use Elevate to push up to the surface above, then press L1/LT to Shift onto it. In areas like the construction zone, jump and glide beside a surface to automatically stick to it if it is the only nearby surface.

After exiting the Fault, you still need to get out: Shift onto the wall behind the TV you entered through. That leads back to the hole you dropped down from — walk along the walls while fighting Hiss back to the parking garage rooftop.

  • 1 × Living Shard

Shift is mandatory for the West Incursion Zone Resonant hunt and for much of the game's traversal — this is one of the most important quests in CONTROL Resonant.
