Nobleman's Scribbles

The writer had hoped the rundown lodge would hide them from the vrakhiri — nobles would never be sought in such a shack — but doubts creep in, especially at night, when something seems to circle outside.

Are the vrakhiri aware of this hiding place, merely playing? Or do fouler things prowl beyond, long eclipsed by the blood-drinkers and now keen to run nobles down like beasts? He prays for neither outcome, yet belief falters.
