Mother Bernice's Journal
This journal of Mother Bernice sheds light on the convent's last days. Food runs short and rations are cut;
water is polluted and sickness spreads. More refugees arrive, most already ill, while the sisters panic —
though Leonica keeps a steady hand. Anghel digs graves that fill too fast; space runs out, fear turns to anger,
and fights break out. Pilgrims force open St. Tyna's casket while Anghel, trying to stop them, is beaten senseless.
The last entries are the prioress's own: fever, dark blotches on her skin, even Leonica's reason slipping,
with only a desperate prayer left.
