Back when I worked the mines, I heard tell of man-eating cave dwellers called kobolds — and those tales held more than a grain of truth — kobolds exist, and they guard their tunnels jealously. They lurk mostly below ground, though strays — lost or driven out by their kin — surface in the open. They have monstrous cousins, imps and pookas, different in shape but sharing the same hunger for human flesh. Yet the kobolds look witless and clumsy; do not be fooled. They are startlingly clever and quick, leaping in to strike and scattering before you can react. Even a master swordsman alone may fail against a whole swarm of the devils.
