Overview
Brencis's host differs from any other ruler's. First come the three vrakhir henchmen — Bakir, Ambrus and Xanthe — prepared to fight at Brencis's side whenever called. Then the fiercely devoted blood guards, shaped by Xanthe. And there are uriashi too — strong, obedient, and typically keen to prove their value.
Still, the rank and file are ordinary soldiery who, two years past, still served Knyaz Skender faithfully. Coen wagers they would fight no one if they had the choice. Yet they stand between him and the vrakhiri, which makes them his enemies whether he wishes it or not.
