Faded Report

Brother Wilhelm regretfully reports that the murderer's identity is still a mystery. What he has learned: all eleven of the dead perished in the night, drained of nearly all their blood — none of it found near the bodies — with many bite marks, mostly necks and wrists — and one sufferer had his neck broken too.

He would guess an animal, except no animal can kill grown men and women so gruesomely. He will keep questioning the victims' families and, God willing, learn more; meanwhile he asks that the letter reach the Master of the Hunt, who should search the nearby caverns and forests for the beast's lair — and counsels His Majesty's subjects against leaving their houses after dark, whatever the cost, until this business is settled.
