From Life of St. Bénézet

Bénézet was a French shepherd lad who received a heavenly calling to span the Rhône. Despite the authorities' mockery, he proved his mission by hoisting an immense boulder no man could budge.

Miracles followed — sight restored to the blind among them — winning him wealthy patrons who funded the bridge's construction.
