Simeon is pleased Ivo sought him out instead of some 'wise' woman's confused counsel: he rode straight south to the farm, reaching it as little Elina's fit took hold — thrashing, slavering, her father straining to pin her down.

Diagnosis: the falling sickness — uncommon, yet controllable with soothing draughts. Elina will never quite outgrow the seizures, but his guidance will teach her to foresee them.

The grateful parents feasted him as guest of honour; though he does not fraternise with patients, he admits he rather enjoyed himself among the charming, generous family.
