To My Children
Hidden in Pieter's secret stash, this quest letter is addressed to his children. Pieter reflects that while
children are said not to bear their fathers' sins, his family still pays for Adam's — and he fears
their misfortunes, Alin's passing and Esme's sickness, are punishments for his own despicable deeds.
He writes to apologise for the infamy he brought on their blood, and to warn them to expect no mercy
from the Lord, but to beware the Devil's whispers instead. He begins to recount what he witnessed
in Flanders in 1328 — then the letter breaks off mid-sentence, unfinished.
