The Noble Basarab

Basarab, a knight of pure heart, saw a wondrous lady in sky-blue on a mansion balcony and swore to guard her honor and battle for her sake.

For years he loved in silence the lady wed to another, suffering quietly and treasuring her graceful glances.

Then chance brought them face to face in a hallway, where she smiled and thanked him for his service, and his noble heart shattered as he understood she was not the virtuous ideal he had worshipped.
