The Rise and Fall of Manesh

A year after Urduk's first ziggurat rose, the Vicious God unleashed a blight: his offspring, the vrakhir Manesh, descended in blood-red lightning.

Only Asser, Priest-King of Urduk, faced him and was crushed; Manesh tore out his heart, dismembered him, scattered the pieces worldwide, and seized Urduk's crown.

Asser's widow Naneka, the High Priestess, mourned three moons until her tears flooded the fields, then dreamed of Sheema's guidance: wind spirits helped her reassemble Asser's body and bestowed upon her a tooth taken from Manesh, with which her spells revived him.

Too frail for battle with Manesh, yet strong enough to bed Naneka, Asser died again, but she bore his namesake son; grown, young Asser slew Manesh in single combat atop the ziggurat, restoring peace for centuries.
