Overview
Saxons: Use the strong opening economy to choose early pressure, including a tower plan when the map offers a safe forward position. The civilization’s broad roster lets archers, infantry, or defenses support the chosen opening.
Opening decision and first timing
Build resource drop-offs where they are already useful; their small food and stone grant should supplement normal gathering. The foot-soldier discount improves as more Town Centers or Castles are held, so an early forward tower should have a defendable purpose. Scout the target before sending builders away from the main economy.
Composition, counters, and transition
Hearth Troops and discounted infantry can hold a front line while stronger Castle Age towers or Castles secure a route. Extra defensive arrows help only if the opponent must fight there. On water, tougher Longships and Catapult Galleons can support control, but a broad roster still needs a chosen core army and enough income to replace it.
Opening priorities
Use the strong opening economy to choose early pressure, including a tower plan when the map offers a safe forward position.
Core army
The civilization’s broad roster lets archers, infantry, or defenses support the chosen opening.
Technology & transition
After gaining map control, expand with Town Centers or Castles and convert the economic lead into a sustained army.
Watch for
A strong economy still needs protection; avoid placing forward structures without scouting enemy counters.
