Overview

The Saxon Revolt opens with a losing battle and a retreat through marshland. Preserve Siegfried and the remaining force, then march carefully to Verden where Charlemagne must lead the entry.

Plan and execution

Retreat from the Süntelberg fight with Siegfried alive, then follow the campaign instructions to take control of Charlemagne’s 50-unit column. Divide the force into groups that can cover both flanks while moving through the marsh, avoiding a broad engagement on poor ground. Bring Charlemagne to the front at Verden’s gate so it opens, while the rest of the army waits outside.

Risks and adaptation

The force cannot be reinforced before reaching Verden, so casualties accumulate permanently. The gate trigger requires Charlemagne specifically; do not leave him behind the army.
