What a Build Is

A build in CONTROL Resonant combines Dylan Faden's supernatural abilities, the shapeshifting Aberrant weapon forms, talents, artifacts, and combat-resource decisions. Rather than a single item or skill pick, a build describes the whole loadout and how its parts work together in close-range combat.

This page publishes no pre-release tier list. Before the released game can be tested, anything depending on damage numbers, cooldowns, upgrade costs, or boss resistances stays unknown. What you can plan now is the build framework itself: the structure every finished build will follow once launch testing verifies exact values.

Build Shells

These six shells are planning templates, not ranked recommendations. Each stays valid now and can take exact pieces once launch data verifies them.

Hammer Stagger

Pair the hammer form with talents and artifacts improving falter, posture breaks, and safe heavy-attack windows. Exact pieces stay unknown until source-backed.

Dual Blades Pressure

A fast melee shell built around constant pressure: dodge consistency, status application, and faster Power recovery once the relevant modifiers are known. Track with status effects, dodge timing, and aggressive ability recovery.

Shield Control

Preview coverage points to a shield-style defensive ability option. Keep those defensive picks in this shell, separate from any final best-build advice until the final names and unlock rules are verified.

Elemental Status

Build around elemental abilities only after the full element list, enemy counters, and status durations are confirmed. Elemental abilities are a verified system, but the complete roster is not yet ready for a final database.

Assist-Tuned

Assist Mode exposes combat tuning builds can use: incoming damage, outgoing damage, outgoing falter, projectile speed, Power recovery, Perfect Dodge Window, and enemy aggression. Any build should state whether it assumes default settings or Assist Mode tuning. See Assist Mode & Accessibility Settings for the full settings list.

Artifact Core

No artifact-centered loadout should be recommended until real artifact names, effects, and locations are source-backed. This shell stays reserved for launch.

Finished Build Record Fields

Once builds can be tested, each finished record should contain:

  • Build name
  • Status: tested build, preview theorycraft, or unknown launch data
  • Core ability and its Resonant source, connecting the reward back to the boss or encounter record
  • Aberrant form: hammer, dual blades, or another confirmed form
  • Talents used
  • Artifacts with exact effects, only after source-backed verification
  • Patch / verified date

For ability rewards tied to boss encounters, see All Resonants & the Hedron Explained.

FAQ

Is there a best build?

No reliable best build exists before release. The useful pre-launch answer is the build structure: ability, Aberrant form, talents, artifacts, Power recovery, and encounter matchup.

Can builds use Assist Mode?

Yes. Builds should state whether they assume default combat settings or Assist Mode tuning, since settings like outgoing falter and Power recovery change how a loadout behaves.

Are Aberrant forms part of builds?

Yes. Aberrant forms are one of the main build axes, alongside abilities, talents, and artifacts. The hammer and dual blades are the confirmed forms so far.
