How to Start

Rogue Altered speakers are loose around Manhattan — four speakers and one subwoofer — and Dylan has to round them up. All five are marked on the map once the quest is active.

You can begin at several search locations, but the earliest is an apartment building in the western corner of Central. Go up to the second floor, take the first door on the left, and check the left corner of the room. Interact with the phone there to collect the note "Pete, Nina and Lester", which grants the mission.

A note on the speakers themselves: they run away when Dylan gets close. You can only grab one when it pauses, so chase each speaker down and interact with it the moment it stops moving.

This is one of the longer side quests in the game — expect to bounce between Central, Downtown, the West Incursion Zone, and the Oldest House before you're done. It's worth knocking out early, since every step also counts toward the Panopticon Intern trophy, and none of the locations require late-game abilities.

Walkthrough

1. Investigate the Collector's Apartment

  1. Search Nearby for the Speaker — The speaker is sitting beside the trash bins across the street from the Collector's Apartment.
  2. Subdue the Speaker at the Construction Site — Chase it into the nearby construction site. When it briefly stops, interact to subdue it and pick it up.

2. Investigate the Museum of Curiosities

The museum sits in the south corner of the West Incursion Zone — it's in a separate region, so use a fast travel door to get there. Three Hiss orbs block the entrance; destroy all three to get inside. Follow the red lines in the air to find them: the first is directly south on the road turned into the wall, the next is down the road to the north-west on the upper shifted area, and the last is north of the building at the end of the back alley near the lasers.

Inside, grab the note collectible on the front desk, then press the red button at the back of the museum, right in front of the speaker.

  1. Contain the Speaker in the Museum of Curiosities — Chase the speaker around the museum and interact with it when it stops. It likes to dart between the exhibit halls, so corner it near a wall to make the grab easier. Watch for the brief pause animation — that's your only window to interact before it bolts again.

3. Investigate the Auction House

The Auction House is in Downtown's "Dense Patterning" area, at the center of it. Defeat the Hiss waiting on the rooftop, head through the door, and speak with the person standing on the balcony.

  1. Subdue the Speaker in the Auction House — After the conversation, the speaker appears and starts moving around the room. Chase it down and subdue it — it tends to loop around the balcony level, so cut across the floor below to intercept it. Then return to the balcony: pick up the note sitting left of the person, and grab the "There's People In There" recording collectible beside the nearby couches.

4. Investigate the Auction Buyer's Apartment

Head to the eastern area of Central and go up to the third floor to find the open apartment. Pick up the Exchange Location Note just inside the door — it points you straight at the coffee shop. The apartment itself is worth a quick look around for extra context, but the note is the key item here.

  1. Look for Clues at the Coffee Shop — The coffee shop is west of the apartment. Defeat the Hiss nearby to get in, then interact with the speaker sitting on the table. Clear the Hiss before touching the speaker so the chase doesn't start while enemies are still attacking you.
  2. Contain the Speaker at the Coffee Shop — Chase the speaker outside and interact with it when it stops.

5. Ask Langston About the Confiscated Subwoofer

Find Langston at the south-east corner of the exterior area near the Field Office and speak with him. He hands over the Oldest House Storage room keycard, which opens doors requiring SR Clearance Level.

  1. Look for the Subwoofer in the Room Near Executive Research — Enter the Oldest House, take the elevator up into the building, then take the second elevator down to Executive Research. Exit and go left to the corner to find the SR Clearance Level door — the keycard Langston gave you opens it. Interact with the subwoofer in the corner of the room — it flees, and Hiss appear in the room. Defeat them first so they don't interrupt you, then chase down the subwoofer and contain it when it stops.

6. Take the Speakers and Subwoofer Back to the Auction House

Return to the Auction House in Downtown and interact with the couch to the right of the person to place all the speakers. This is the same couch where you found the "There's People In There" recording earlier — the ritual setup happens right there in the main room.

7. Complete the Ritual at the Auction House

Arrange the speakers and subwoofer according to the previously collected note "The SINKKI D50 Speaker Set":

  1. One speaker on the glass surface atop the black boxes near the bottom of the stairs.
  2. A second speaker on the black stone slabs on the stage's north side.
  3. A third speaker on the wooden bench in the other upstairs area, near the generators.
  4. The fourth speaker on the blue tarp hanging off the edge of the other upstairs area.
  5. The subwoofer in the water on the ground beside the person at the console.

Talk to the person at the console, then revisit each speaker and interact to switch them off. Finally, return to the subwoofer and interact — you're given a choice: turn it off, or turn the volume up. The end reward is the same either way, so pick whichever outcome you prefer. Turning it off ends the mission immediately and wraps up the quest right there.

8. Talk to the Civilian

This objective only appears if you turned the volume up. Speak with the Civilian to complete the mission.

Rewards

  • Untapped Bout Guard artifact.
  • Progress toward the Panopticon Intern trophy.

Known Bug (Fixed)

At launch, this quest suffered from a bug where the Subwoofer interaction prompt would not appear, blocking progress. The issue was fixed in update 1.4.0 — see The Complete Set Bug for details.
