How the loss progression works

The Loss Bonus is money awarded to a team after losing a round in a mode that uses the competitive-style economy. Its purpose is to keep a losing side able to make later purchases rather than leaving it permanently unable to buy. In the CS2 Competitive/Premier schedule recorded by the Wiki, the base progression ranges from $1,400 at loss counter 0 to $3,400 at counter 4. The counter increases after a loss and decreases by one after a win, with a floor of zero; it does not simply reset to zero after every victory.

The recorded schedule begins each half with the loss counter at 1. That means the first loss of a half can use the next step rather than the minimum amount. The counter describes the team’s recent loss history, not the number of rounds the team has lost in the entire match. Overtime, a special server configuration or another queue may use different rules, so use the row as a dated Competitive/Premier reference rather than a universal CS2 constant.

Loss Bonus is awarded for losing a round, but the final amount can also depend on the mode and objective outcome. In Bomb Defusal, a Terrorist bomb plant may add a separate payment even when the Terrorists lose the round. The Wiki’s CS2 table lists different plant additions in some situations; because the table covers multiple modes and contains exceptions, the displayed values are labeled as the source’s listed range rather than collapsed into one guarantee. Check current queue rules and the player’s actual money.

Using the bonus to plan purchases

Teams combine expected loss income with the cash already held and equipment that survived. A player who saved a rifle may need fewer purchases than a teammate who lost all gear. This changes whether the team can make a coordinated Full Buy, should choose an Eco Round, or wants to Force Buy despite incomplete money. A larger loss payment helps recovery but does not replace weapons, armor or utility that were lost.

The team should compare individual balances rather than rely only on a shared estimate. A single player may have enough for a rifle while teammates do not; buying immediately can leave the group with mixed equipment. Discuss drops, armor, grenades and the next-round plan before the purchase window closes. CS2’s Buy Menu can show player funds and a projected minimum amount for a future round, making it easier to consider whether saving now would create a more useful later buy.

The Loss Bonus interacts with Kill Rewards and objective income, but these are separate sources of money. A player’s kill reward does not change the team’s loss counter, and planting the bomb is not the same payment as the round-loss award. A win also changes the future loss counter, so the team should recalculate after every result rather than assume the same bonus repeats.

Mode and version boundaries

Loss bonuses belong to money-based round play. Competitive and Premier use the referenced competitive-style schedule; Casual and Wingman have different reward tables and can differ in starting conditions or objective payments. Deathmatch and other modes without the same team round economy do not use this progression. Community servers can also alter the economy.

The Wiki’s Money article combines Counter-Strike 2 and Global Offensive material in places, and it notes that some values require testing. This entry uses only the section identified for CS2/Competitive-style rules and labels its scope. Earlier-game reward tables, Dangerous Zone money and plugin-controlled server settings are not presented as CS2 Competitive rules.
