Map identity and version-specific setting
Shoots is the CS2 map name; its identifier is ar_shoots. The Wiki lists Valve Corporation as its creator for CS2, places the CS2 version in Mexico and associates it with the War Games/Arms Race map grouping. The earlier Global Offensive version used the name Vietnam and a Vietnam setting. Its Pirates and GIGN faction references belong to that earlier version and should not be carried over as CS2 factions or location details.
This distinction matters because a familiar shared map name can conceal edition-specific differences. For CS2, use Shoots and its Mexico location as the applicable identity. “Vietnam” is useful only as a historical alias explaining the earlier version’s presentation, not as the CS2 map’s formal location.
Symmetrical layout and spawn cover
Shoots is described as symmetrical. Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists begin on opposite sides, and each side receives identical cover. This arrangement gives both teams the same broad starting protection while placing their spawns across from one another. It is the map’s documented layout description; the available source does not provide named rooms, site labels, a route diagram or a full callout list.
The map’s CS2 visual variants include a nighttime version, but the update does not document altered collision, lighting-based player advantages or a separate objective for that version. Treat nighttime as a dated visual variant of Shoots. Exact visibility and appearance should be read from the selected in-game version rather than inferred from the short patch note.
Arms Race match context
Counter-Strike 2 added Arms Race and its maps Baggage and Shoots on February 6, 2024. Arms Race uses continuous respawns and a weapon-progression objective; players advance through the match’s weapon stages, and the final Gold Knife elimination wins. This is different from Bomb Defusal: Shoots has no C4 plant, bombsite retake or standard round-economy cycle in this mode.
The current weapon stage affects the kind of engagement a player can take, while repeated respawns mean that opponent positions can change quickly. Shoots’ opposite starting sides and mirrored cover provide a comparable start, but they do not make later fights fixed. Use the map and radar to understand relative position, and see Arms Race for the mode’s rules rather than assuming a map-specific weapon order or route.
Although historical Wiki material also associates Shoots with Flying Scoutsman and War Games, the CS2 release record specifically added Shoots with the February 2024 Arms Race return. Those older mode labels should not be treated as evidence of a current CS2 playlist.
Night variant and map maintenance
On August 14, 2025, a CS2 update added nighttime versions of Ancient and Shoots. The note identifies the new variant but does not give a route-by-route layout change or claim that Shoots’ underlying symmetry was altered. The day/night distinction belongs to the map version selected, not to a new game mode.
A subsequent August 18, 2025 CS2 map update recorded player-clipping adjustments for Shoots. Clipping defines where player movement is constrained around map geometry; the note does not identify the exact locations or describe a strategic route change. It is therefore a dated maintenance record, not a basis for inventing named callouts.
The map page’s broader visible history includes details from Global Offensive as well as CS2. This article retains only CS2-specific setting, mode and update facts, and keeps the earlier Vietnam description separate.
Availability and scope
Shoots was added to CS2 Arms Race on February 6, 2024. A map’s historical inclusion, its Arms Race identity and its present playlist status are separate facts; later updates can change the available selection. Consult Map Rotations for dated pool changes. This article covers Shoots as a Counter-Strike 2 map and does not treat earlier Global Offensive mode listings as current CS2 support.
Night variant (August 14, 2025)
The August 14, 2025 CS2 map update added a nighttime version of Shoots. The note identifies a lighting variant and does not state that the Arms Race objective, weapon progression, spawn rules or map geometry changed. Players should treat this as a dated presentation option for Shoots rather than a new mode or a replacement for the existing map record.
