Model & identity

The Huntsman Knife is one of the knife models in the CS2 inventory. A broad fixed blade with a substantial point and a protective handle. Its wider blade profile contrasts with narrow folding models. CS2 finishes customize its appearance while the equipped item remains a melee knife. The player sees the selected model when holding and inspecting the knife; other players can also see its equipped appearance in match situations where the model is visible.

The knife type and the weapon finish are separate parts of the item. A knife model determines the blade and handle form, while an eligible finish determines the surface pattern or color. A finish does not convert the knife into a different model, and a visually rare finish does not improve its performance.

Role in a match

The Huntsman Knife occupies the melee weapon slot and provides the standard knife actions available in CS2. Players may switch to it when they need a melee option or when moving without a firearm is appropriate under the game’s movement rules. It has no unique tactical ability tied to this cosmetic model. The player must still consider nearby opponents and choose whether to keep a firearm ready.

Knife attacks are close-range actions and expose the user if an opponent has a gun ready. The equipped model does not replace positioning, movement or a team’s objective. The Stock Knife explains the default equipment; this entry describes the selected visual variant.

Finishes & inventory

Compatible finishes can change the Huntsman Knife’s visible blade or handle surfaces. The exact finish pool depends on item and container releases, so availability should be documented with the relevant CS2 Weapon Cases, Collections or update entry rather than assumed from the knife’s name.

The knife can be inspected and equipped through the CS2 inventory and loadout interface. An inspect animation presents the model but does not change its match statistics. A weapon finish or knife model is part of item customization and does not affect the AK-47, M4A4 or other firearms in the player’s inventory.

CS2 applicability

This entry covers the Huntsman Knife model in Counter-Strike 2. Its current cosmetic availability depends on the item pool and updates; no market price or case drop is treated as permanent. The visual profile described here identifies the model and separates it from the shared melee role.

Tanto point and tactical fixed-blade design

The Huntsman Knife is presented as a modern tactical fixed blade with a prominent Tanto point. Its official description refers to combat and utility uses and calls out the point’s penetration profile; those words describe the model rather than a special armor-piercing mechanic in Counter-Strike 2. The Wiki identifies the real-world visual reference as the MTECH USA XTREME MX-8054 Tactical Fixed Blade Knife. The broad blade and angular point make its silhouette more substantial than the slim Bayonet or folding Navaja Knife.

In CS2 the Huntsman Knife is cosmetic and shares the default Stock Knife performance. It uses the same slash and stab roles, attack reach, damage behavior and movement rules as other cosmetic knives. The model’s tactical styling does not make it a utility item, nor does it interact with map objects. Its purpose in the loadout is to select a distinct blade model and compatible finish.

CS2 loadout and finish records

The Huntsman Knife was introduced on May 1, 2014. The Wiki identifies the Huntsman Weapon Case as its initial rare-item container and records later Chroma and Gamma finish families in the Spectrum and Operation Riptide case histories. Those historical associations describe how the finish catalogue expanded; case contents are not a guarantee of present-day availability. The knife is a Rare Special item that can be equipped from the CS2 inventory loadout.

The item gallery lists original finishes such as Blue Steel, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Fade, Night and Urban Masked, alongside Chroma and Gamma variants. Finish selection changes the blade’s appearance but not its combat use. Follow Weapon Skins, Wear and Pattern Index for how those properties relate. For another broad fixed blade compare the Bowie Knife; for a more compact model, compare the Bayonet and Classic Knife.

Inspection regression fix (June 7, 2023)

The June 7, 2023 Limited Test update fixed a regression involving inspection of the Huntsman Knife. It does not describe the failure or animation frame involved, and it does not indicate a change to the knife’s attacks, damage, or inspect animation design.

Deploy and quick-inspect animations (August 14, 2025)

On August 14, 2025, Counter-Strike 2 improved deploy and quick-inspect animations for all knives. The patch describes a shared animation update across the knife category; it does not identify a unique pose, timing value or motion change for this individual model. The change concerns how a knife is drawn and quickly inspected in first person, rather than its attack damage, reach, movement speed or cosmetic finish. The same update separately modified the Sawed-Off and several named firearms, whose animation changes are documented on their own pages.
