Last Will
Ascar of Tantari, keeper of bees, ordains this document, written by his own hand, as his last will: his few debts are to be settled in full, and — having no progeny he recognises — all his goods are to be shared equally among Tantari's folk, under the elderman's supervision.
His bees go to his neighbour Rustem, on condition the hives stay together and the autumn take is capped at thirty pounds per hive of honey; his dog Hatchet goes to his dear friend Zulfia.
His final rites are to follow timeless custom, with no regard for the knyaz's clergy or their directives.
