On the Creation of Man

This unsanctioned text tells that halfway through fashioning the world, the gods Andag, Nassur and Sheema had grown weary.

Nassur and Andag spat upon the Earth; from their spittle arose the first humans —

helpful to the gods, but weak and quick to die. Then a god whose name may not be spoken shed his blood

upon the Earth, and the first of the vrakhiri was born — strong, long-lived, and useful, until he defied every god

but his maker and was cast out. Undeterred, Sheema wove her web around the vrakhir's fang for days, until at last

she fashioned the Pilgrim of the Dawn — both man and vrakhir, a perfect balance.

All the gods were content except the nameless one, whose hatred of humans and the other gods endures to this day.
