Some four centuries ago, Gelou, Glad, Salan and Menumorut each ruled a Carpathian domain and claimed descent from the great Arimaspian warriors.
All bent the knee to the Hungarians: Teteny, counted among the seven famed Hungarian chieftains, slew Gelou; Glad's large army of Cumans, Bulgarians and Vlachs was destroyed near the Timis river; Salan fell despite aid from Byzantine imperial troops.
Menumorut survived by marrying his daughter into the Hungarian ruling house, keeping peaceful rule over Biharia.
New legends hold that these four might not have been sole bearers of Arimaspian blood.
