Town Merchant Guide

The Town Merchant converts your emeralds into gear. You will find merchants in the game's town hubs, such as Brave Haven, between missions. The stock is priced by formula rather than fixed tags, carries random discounts, and can be expanded with echo shards. This guide breaks down the pricing, the upgrade path, and how to get the most value out of every visit.

How prices are set

Every item's price follows one rule: 20 emeralds times the item's power, multiplied again by rarity. Common stock costs the base price, rare items cost double, and special items cost triple. A power-40 common item therefore sells for 800 emeralds, the same item at rare costs 1,600, and at special it costs 2,400. Because the formula keys off item power, merchant prices rise alongside your level, and high-rarity stock at high power gets expensive fast. Gear bought here can be upgraded and customized through Minecraft Dungeons II Enchanting Guide just like loot from missions, so a well-chosen purchase can anchor a build for a long time.

Stock and discounts

The merchant keeps 3 items of each rarity on the shelf, so the selection is always small but focused. Each stocked item can carry a discount between 0% and 20% in 5% steps, meaning individual items may be discounted by 5, 10, 15, or 20 percent. A discount on a high-power special item is the single biggest bargain the merchant offers, so always scan the shelf for the discounted slots before deciding what to buy or skip.

Merchant upgrades

The merchant starts out selling only common gear, but you can expand the stock by spending echo shards on merchant levels. Reaching level 2 costs 10 Echo Shards and unlocks rare items, while level 3 costs 15 Echo Shards and unlocks special items. Echo shards come from defeating bosses, and you can carry at most 100 of them, so boss farming doubles as merchant funding. Unlocking both levels is worth prioritizing early, because rare and special stock carry better rolled effects than commons.

Refreshing the stock

If nothing on the shelf appeals to you, you can refresh the merchant's inventory. A refresh is free whenever you have a refresh charge available: you start with 1 charge and can hold up to 3. Once your charges are spent, each additional refresh costs 3 Echo Shards. Since echo shards are also the currency for unlocking rare and special stock, it is usually smarter to spend free charges first and keep your shards for the permanent upgrades.

Smart buying tips

Buy gear close to your current power level so it stays useful, and remember that anything you buy can be pushed further with blacksmith upgrades and enchantments, which you can read about in Minecraft Dungeons II Enchanting Guide. Discounted high-power specials are the best value on the shelf, since the discount applies to the already-multiplied special price. Watch your emerald cap: you can hold at most 9,999 emeralds, so if your wallet is nearly full, a shopping trip is better than letting quest and mob rewards go to waste. Finally, check back after leveling up, since stock power scales with you and a fresh visit can replace gear you have outgrown.
