Overview
Komnenos opens with a short coup timer, followed by a city-control phase with changing political conditions. Recruit the nearby rebel groups quickly, enter the inner city through a controlled route, and use the post-coup interval to secure legitimacy and stabilize the capital.
Plan and execution
After meeting the Eunuch, collect the rebel groups nearest the camp rather than roaming into distant hostile encampments. Choose either the transport landing at the southeast docks or the Ox Cart’s gate opening, and bring the full force together before approaching Hagia Sophia. Draw the Varangians’ guards toward Alexios, then let the rest of the group focus down both Varangians. Once control shifts, pause to read the new objectives, protect the city’s production and key civic sites, and complete the legitimacy tasks before launching another expansion.
Risks and adaptation
The Eunuch is a scout and guide, not a front-line fighter; damage can remove him from your control. The transport route requires two trips and exposes the approach to delay, while the land route can attract extra guards. Avoid spending the coup timer fighting optional camps, and do not assume the city-management stage follows ordinary skirmish rules.
