Bighorn Sheep

Bighorn Sheep is a rare huntable animal that appears only on the plateau of the Rockies map, not in its valley. Each carcass contains 400 Food and supports up to eight gatherers. The animal has 20 hit points, speed 2.0 and line of sight 18, so the plateau herd is a limited map feature rather than a dependable source on every match.

Role, availability & values

Scout the Rockies plateau to locate the herd and check the route before sending Villagers away from the valley. Settlers without the Blunderbuss technology need two shots to kill a Bighorn Sheep in the recorded profile. Once dead, it becomes a finite 400-Food carcass; up to eight workers can gather it. Identify a replacement Hunt before the carcasses are exhausted.

Training & availability

Huntable animal; Rockies plateau only, not the valley; 400 Food; 20 hit points; up to eight gatherers; Settlers without Blunderbuss need two shots to kill it.

Matchup & timing

Use the plateau herd when it can support Food gathering without leaving the valley economy exposed. Because the resource is restricted to one area, protect the route between the Town Center and plateau and avoid sending more workers than the herd can support. If the opponent contests the high ground or threatens the gathering line, switch to a safer Food source rather than losing Villagers for a scarce hunt.

A map-specific plateau resource

Bighorn Sheep are rare and tied to the plateau on Rockies; they do not appear in the valley. This makes their location strategically important: the herd can add Food, but workers may have to travel away from the safer starting area. Reveal the plateau before committing to a large gathering group and keep military support near the path if the opponent can reach it.

Hunt the herd and plan the transition

Each animal yields 400 Food, and the recorded gathering limit is eight workers per carcass. Settlers without Blunderbuss take two shots to kill one, so account for the initial hunting action before comparing the site with a closer Hunt. The herd does not replenish the same carcass after it is collected. Move workers to another Food source when the plateau becomes unsafe or the animals are nearly gone.
