Acropolis
Acropolis gives each player a defensible plateau above a resource-rich valley. Starting Wall segments and Battery Towers help protect the high ground, but the plateau has few natural resources and cannot support a passive long-term economy.

Alaska
Alaska is a Definitive Edition map based on the U.S. state of Alaska and included among the game’s single-player maps. Its layout combines land with a body of water running along roughly half of the map’s edge, so it offers both terrestrial routes and a coastal boundary.

Alps
Alps is a Definitive Edition — Knights of the Mediterranean map set in the alpine region of central Western Europe. Its tundra-like ground is marked by a snow path that forms a Y through the middle, with Houses placed along the upper portion of the lower branch.

Amazonia
Amazonia is a river map built around the Amazon, which separates opposing sides in team and free-for-all matches. In multiplayer layouts, both banks can contain a Trade Route with three Trading Post sites and Native settlements; the exact distribution can vary. The river also holds Fish, making its waters both an economic area and a military corridor.

Anatolia
Anatolia, added with Knights of the Mediterranean, centers on a long grassy valley through rugged terrain. The valley contains a Trade Route and grazing livestock, and it can separate teammates as well as opposing starts; each player begins near a Phanariote settlement.

Andes
Andes is a landlocked WarChiefs map set in mountainous western South America. The terrain has no shoreline for a Dock or naval economy, so control depends on land routes, passes and the resources that can be gathered around them. Hills and narrow approaches can protect a position while also slowing reinforcement.

Andes - Upper
Andes - Upper includes four Quechua settlements in the northeast. Their grouped location creates a potential Native alliance objective, but reaching and holding the area requires a deliberate route from the starting position.

Arabia
Arabia is a Definitive Edition map introduced in update 13.690. Its exposed circular Trade Route crosses sparsely resourced ground; scattered cliffs do not form dependable defensive walls, and the map has no Native settlements.

Araucania
Araucania is a WarChiefs map with a rectangular boundary rather than the more usual circular footprint. The longer sides and corners change the distances and approach angles between bases. Its resources and objectives are generated across that shape, so the first scout needs to cover the edges as well as the center.

Archipelago
Archipelago is an Aegean water map added with Knights of the Mediterranean. Players begin on small resource-limited islands and must expand to neighboring islands to reach more land and resources. Two Trade Routes cross the map, and Royal Houses sit on islands around its edge, so the match combines migration, naval security and land control.

Arctic Island
Arctic Island is a cold-weather map with one diagonal Trade Route running from the southwest toward the northeast. It appeared in the original game as Arctic Territories; Definitive Edition uses the name Arctic Island. The route gives both players a shared trade objective, while starting positions determine how safely each side can reach its Trading Posts.

Atlas
Atlas is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. A mountain range divides the players, leaving a small number of narrow passes between rugged terrain and resource-rich valleys. Each side has a Trade Route and resources.

Bahia
Bahia is a Definitive Edition Random Map introduced with The African Royals. It is based on the Brazilian coastal region. Players begin close to one another, with a long cliff separating the starting areas; the map’s early Food supports opening economies, while the northeastern coast becomes important for later resources and the Trade Route.

Baja California
Baja California is a Definitive Edition map with two resource-rich bodies of water flanking a central Trade Route that separates the teams. The layout creates linked land and sea objectives: route sites support trade, while the side waters can provide naval resources and movement.

Balkan Mountains
Balkan Mountains places four Trading Posts and four Royal Houses in a square arrangement: two route sites toward the north and south, and two Royal Houses toward the east and west. The separate objective lines encourage competing approaches around the center.

Baltic Sea
Baltic Sea is a Random Map themed around the arm of the Atlantic Ocean in northeastern Europe between Scandinavia, Finland, and the Baltic states. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Bayou
Bayou is an original water map where four Cherokee and Seminole villages occupy islands through the center. The island chain makes Native access part of the naval and land contest: players must reach the villages across water and then hold the sites needed to establish alliances.

Bengal
Bengal is a Definitive Edition map inspired by the Bay of Bengal region. Opposing players begin on broad, flat plains, with two settlements south of each starting area. Marshes separate the starts from surrounding lowlands, while swamp and mangrove terrain constrict movement and make a simple wall line unreliable. The map’s open opening gives way to a more difficult contest for routes, settlements and safe expansion.

Bering Strait
Bering Strait divides the teams with a partially frozen passage. The Inuit settlement and Harpooner and Qivittoq outlaws provide neutral objectives, but the central tactical question is how the current shoreline connects: ice may allow a land crossing, open water may require naval access, and both routes can matter at once.

Black Forest
Black Forest is a named Random Map in Knights of the Mediterranean. Its generated terrain and starting placements shape the routes players can scout, secure and contest in each match.

Black Forest - Arena
Black Forest - Arena is a Knights of the Mediterranean map with a large open, resource-rich square at the center. Forests ring the perimeter, and each starting base opens toward the central field rather than being separated by the tight tree corridors of the Black Forest variant. Stone walls protect the starting areas and provide room to build safely behind them.

Bohemia
Bohemia is a Knights of the Mediterranean random map divided into four resource-rich quarters by crossing rivers. Each quarter has a Trading Post site and a Royal House, making river access and alliance control central to expansion.

Borneo
Borneo is a large tropical island map from The Asian Dynasties with abundant resources on land and at sea. A Trade Route runs through the interior, where dense jungle, Gold Mines, Treasures and Trading Post sites reward exploration. The surrounding water is visible from the start and offers Fish, Whales and water Treasures, creating a choice between inland control and naval expansion.

Budapest
Budapest gives each player two Town Centers and double the usual starting Home City provisions, with the teams split across a wide Danube. Two Trade Routes follow the river, whose seasonal state changes whether and where armies can cross.

California
California is a WarChiefs map organized around a Trade Route. The route normally contains four Trading Posts, some team layouts use three, and a five-site version can appear rarely. Its variable length changes which sites can be taken first and how much of the route one player can defend.

Caribbean
Caribbean is an original island and water map with broad open seas, plentiful Fish and Whales, and coastlines that support naval expansion. It is a strong setting for a water-focused economy, although Fishing Ships and warships become exposed targets.

Carolina
Carolina is an original map along the Atlantic coast of the Carolinas. It combines multiple Trade Routes with Cherokee or Seminole settlements, so shoreline access and inland objectives compete for early attention.

Carpathians
Carpathians is a Random Map themed around the Carpathian mountain range which crosses Central Europe, mainly in the Balkans. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Cascade Range
Cascade Range is a land-focused Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition map based on the mountain range of northwestern North America. It has limited resources, no Trade Route and centrally placed Klamath and Nootka settlements; a small amount of Fish is available early, but it does not support a lasting water economy.

Caspian Sea
Caspian Sea is a Random Map themed around the region surrounding the Caspian Sea, the largest inland sea in the world. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Caucasus
Caucasus places teams on opposing coasts divided by a short mountain range, with a central Trade Route. The mountains complicate land movement, while Docks and Transport Ships can create a second approach to either shoreline.

Central Asia
Central Asia is a Random Map themed around the vast Central Asian steppe area around the former Aral Sea. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Central Plain
Central Plain is a land Random Map in Definitive Edition, set in China’s densely populated central grasslands. An extensive Trade Route runs across the open terrain, and the map features Shaolin settlements and abundant wildlife. Trading Post control is an early economic and military objective rather than a side activity.

Ceylon
Ceylon begins with players on small islands with few resources, while a richer central island provides the main expansion and staging area. The opening turns on when each side can cross and secure access to the center.

Colorado
Colorado is a Definitive Edition map split by mountains in the northwest and southeast. A Trade Route winds around the ridges through three fairly open passages, creating chokepoints that are difficult to fully wall. Cheyenne, Comanche and Navajo settlements and Pistolero and Renegado Outlaws can shape the land contest.

Congo Basin
Congo Basin is a land Random Map in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, added in update 13.690. Dense rainforest forms narrow corridors between clearings, and teammates share a starting clearing. Reaching an opponent means navigating a maze of passages, so the map naturally favors defensive positions and deliberate pushes.

Corsica and Sardinia
Corsica and Sardinia is a Random Map themed around the islands of Corsica and Sardinia in the Western Mediterranean. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Courland
Courland is a Knights of the Mediterranean Random Map based on the Gulf of Riga in the eastern Baltic. Teams start on opposite shores of a frozen gulf. Two Trade Routes and four Royal Houses are always present, making the crossing and central objectives important from the opening. Patches of ice branch off the gulf and can complicate wall placement; Mines do not spawn on ice, although herds can migrate across it.

Dakota
Dakota is a Definitive Edition land map with wide prairie, forests and ponds, divided by two red mesas near the center. Two Trade Routes pass through the space between the mesas, while settlements near the outer regions can provide Cree or Cheyenne access.

Danish Straits
Danish Straits is a Random Map themed around the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits which connect the Baltic Sea to the North Sea in Northern Europe. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Darfur
Darfur is an African Royals map with desert-like terrain and an oasis in the southern part of the map. The oasis is a landmark and possible expansion area, but its value depends on resource access and the route back to the main base.

Deccan
Deccan is an Asian Dynasties map whose opening provides resources before the Town Center has been constructed. That changes the usual order of early economic and military infrastructure: players can make an initial investment before the central building is ready, but still need to account for the resources required to establish the colony.

Dnieper Basin
Dnieper Basin is a Knights of the Mediterranean random map divided by the Dnieper River. Starting players occupy a dry steppe with plentiful Hunts, sparse Wood and Tin Mines as the local Coin source; the land across the river contains temperate forest, Gold Mines and livestock along the riverbank.

Dunes
Dunes is an open Sahara map from The African Royals. Gold Mines are plentiful, but Hunts are relatively sparse and workers must cross exposed ground to gather Food. There is no passing Trade Route; a single Berber settlement occupies the center and is likely to draw both players toward it.

Dunes - The Eye
Dunes - The Eye is a land map introduced in Definitive Edition: Knights of the Mediterranean. The saved map entry identifies Berber settlements as a notable map feature, while the generated layout determines where each player can reach resources, treasures and settlement sites. The map’s exact openings should be scouted in each match rather than inferred from its name.

England
England is a Random Map themed around the area of Southern England surrounding the Thames River and coastline with the English Channel. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Eurasian Steppe
Eurasian Steppe combines four Royal Houses with a Trade Route containing four Trading Posts, creating two kinds of control objective across the open steppe. Holding the route can support the economy, while the Houses make other parts of the map valuable.

Eurasian Steppe - LOST
Eurasian Steppe - LOST is a multiplayer special-map variant of Eurasian Steppe, introduced with the Definitive Edition special-map set. It scatters each player’s small starting force across the steppe and removes the normal Town Center opening. Players must explore, collect enough Wood and have their Heroes and Villagers establish the first base. The start is intentionally less predictable than a standard Age of Empires III match.

Eurasian Steppe - Survival
Eurasian Steppe - Survival is a multiplayer-only special-map variant of Eurasian Steppe. Players begin with Villagers and a Town Center but without a Hero, scouting unit or normal natural-resource field. A fast Home City shipment and some starting infrastructure provide the first route into the economy; the map challenges players to build a supply chain from those limited tools.

Faroe Islands
Faroe Islands is a cliff-bound island map where naval passages connect separated starting areas. Harpooner and Sailor outlaws are listed, and no Native settlement is available. Narrow land approaches and usable shorelines shape how armies can meet.

Fertile Crescent
Fertile Crescent is a Definitive Edition Random Map named for the broad Mesopotamian and eastern Mediterranean region, sometimes extended to the Nile Valley. Its in-game resource and starting positions are generated, while the listed Sufi settlement offers a potential Native alliance.

Finland
Finland is a Random Map themed around the area bordering the Baltic Sea, east of the Gulf of Bothnia and north of the Gulf of Finland. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Florida
Florida is a Random Map themed around the modern day US state of Florida, located in the Southeastern part of the USA. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

France
France is a Knights of the Mediterranean random map based on the flat plains and gently rolling hills of northern and western France. Its layout centers on four short Trade Routes that converge in the middle, with a House of Bourbon settlement and Highwayman and Inquisitor outlaws among the recorded map features.

Gold Coast
Gold Coast is a coastal Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals, themed around modern-day Ghana. Lake Volta and forested plateaus break up grassland and scrub. Its defining economic rule is that gold mines are the only source of Coin, while a naval Trade Route creates an offshore contest.

Gold Coast - Fort
Gold Coast - Fort is a separate randomized Age III map variant, not a guaranteed copy of standard Gold Coast with the same resource and route layout. Its “- Fort” suffix distinguishes it in the map pool, while the generated terrain determines what the player can actually secure.

Gotland
Gotland is a Baltic island map with Vasa and Oldenburg Royal House settlements. These alliance choices compete with ordinary resource and route control; their locations vary with generation, so the map rewards early scouting of both neutral sites and the approaches between players.

Gran Chaco
Gran Chaco is a land Random Map in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, themed around Bolivia’s central Chaco Plain. It is unusually open and has no Trade Route, so the central hunt and exposed approaches matter more than route-based Trade Posts.

Great Lakes
Great Lakes sits between Saguenay to the north, Great Plains to the west, Carolina to the south and New England to the east. Its large lake changes shoreline access and can affect crossings, fishing and travel between bases.

Great Plains
Great Plains places starting areas and the Trade Route toward the southeast, with open ground and Native settlements extending northwest. Broad sightlines help scouting and mobile armies, but also leave distant gatherers exposed.

Great Rift
Great Rift is a Definitive Edition map in The African Royals set in a wide East African valley. A winding river crosses the terrain, a short Trade Route provides a shipment objective and passable lower cliffs lead to Somali settlements, livestock and other resources.

Greenland
Greenland is an Arctic-themed Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition map in The Baltic Powers. Teams start along the coastline, with a vast impassable mountain range separating their starting areas. The range shapes land access and expansion; its ends and the surrounding shore should be scouted instead of assuming the map is split by an ordinary sea crossing.

Guianas
Guianas is a Random Map themed around the Guiana region of South America that forms the modern-day countries of French Guiana, Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Heligoland
Heligoland is a barren beach map where teams contest limited usable ground. Harpooner and Sailor outlaws are listed, but no Native settlement is available. Safe gathering lanes and beach approaches are therefore central to the first expansion.

Highlands
Highlands is a Definitive Edition map in The African Royals set among the highlands of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. Players fight around a rugged mountain with narrow paths. Two separate Trade Routes run through the lowlands, while most resources lie at higher elevations.

Himalayas
Himalayas is an Asian Dynasties mountain map where cliffs create defensible approaches around a Trade Route. Town Centers begin near thick forests, while a central valley contains abundant Food and Gold alongside Native settlements.

Himalayas - Upper
Himalayas - Upper is the more barren variant of the Himalayas map. Its resource-light terrain changes how far workers may need to travel and makes each safe gathering area more valuable. The mountain setting also divides movement into approaches that should be scouted before the army commits to an attack or a distant expansion.

Hispaniola
Hispaniola is a large island map with a central mountain that partially blocks direct movement. The routes around the obstacle and the accessible coastline shape how quickly armies can reinforce or threaten the opposite side.

Historical maps
Historical maps are objective-driven Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition maps based on early-modern European conflicts. Their scenarios can set special rules such as eligible civilizations, maximum Age and starting resources, so they play differently from an ordinary random-map match.

Hokkaido
Hokkaido is a Definitive Edition hybrid map split by an enormous mountain. The ocean lies to the south, while two valuable Trade Routes and a Zen settlement sit north of the mountain; teams must fight on these two fronts because there is no alternate route around the central obstacle.

Honshu
Honshu is an Asian Dynasties island map with a long central landmass and smaller islands nearby. Japanese players begin with a Dock Rickshaw and three Fishing Boats, giving Japan a distinctive water start.

Horn
Horn is a Definitive Edition map from The African Royals based on the Horn of Africa. Its large coastline supports land and coastal Trade Route sites, while Salt Mines are centralized and forests are sparse. A starting bandit catamaran makes the coast relevant from the beginning.

Hudson Bay
Hudson Bay places teams on opposing shores of a resource-rich region. Cree and Inuit settlements and Harpooner and Highwayman outlaw options create several neutral targets, while the water gap affects reinforcements and expansion. The map’s resources and routes vary by generation.

Hungarian Plains
Hungarian Plains is a Random Map themed around the grass plains area of the Pannonian/Carpathian Basin which is located throughout the Balkan Region in Europe. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Indochina
Indochina is a peninsula map in The Asian Dynasties where a central river divides the land while connecting to coastal water. Shallow crossings, rich shorelines and Native settlement sites give players several competing routes to food, trade and army support.

Indonesia
Indonesia is a named Random Map in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Its generated terrain and starting placements shape the routes players can scout, secure and contest in each match.

Ireland
Ireland is a Random Map themed around the island of Ireland which forms part of the British Isles in the North Atlantic Ocean. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Italy
Italy is a Random Map themed around the Apennine Peninsula. Starting positions and resource placements vary between matches, so a coastal setting does not guarantee that every player has useful water access or the same route to the center.

Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast is a Definitive Edition African map whose terrain changes from mangrove-lined lagoons to grassland and an elevated, drier plateau. It contains both a naval trade route linking Africa with distant markets and a mainland route across the plateau toward the Sahel. Elephant herds, Salmon, Tin Mines, and Akan and Jesuit settlements give players several competing objectives.

Kamchatka
Kamchatka is a Definitive Edition boreal-forest map built around one Trade Route that crosses two rivers. The rivers divide the forested terrain, so crossings connect the map’s sections and determine how armies reach the Trade Route and its Trading Posts.

Karelian Lakes
Karelian Lakes is a Random Map themed around the freshwater lakes of Karelia in northern Europe between Lapland (Finland) and Russia. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Korea
Korea is a Definitive Edition hybrid Random Map set on the Korean Peninsula. Its characteristic layout places fishable ocean along the northern coast and a Trade Route across the south, which runs through each team’s side of the map. The autumn setting describes the map’s appearance; it does not determine resource or settlement positions in a generated match.

Labrador
Labrador stretches a Trade Route along the map and separates approaches with defensive cliffs. Inuit and Stuart settlements, plus Harpooner and Qivittoq outlaws, create several neutral choices. The long route can be valuable but also difficult to defend end to end.

Lake Chad
Lake Chad is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. Players start on opposite shores of a large lake whose wet or dry seasonal state changes tactical options. Control of the lake matters, but there are no water shipment points, so Home City naval support is unavailable.

Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is a Definitive Edition — The African Royals Random Map themed around the African Great Lakes region. Resource and starting positions vary by generated game; the recorded Minor civilization settlements include Somali and Sufi, giving players two distinct alliance options to scout.

Lithuania
Lithuania is a heavily wooded, water-rich map from Knights of the Mediterranean. Lakes and river crossings create chokepoints, but limited resources near the starting bases make expansion necessary.

Malaysia
Malaysia is a water-and-land map set on a peninsula between two defensible oceans. Water Buffalo and two religious sites add map-specific objectives.

Malta
Malta is a Knights of the Mediterranean random map. Players begin in walled cities near capturable Fixed Guns, and a large mountain range blocks early direct attacks but can be breached for a faster approach. Water control matters for protecting landing areas. Bourbon, Hanover and Phanar settlements and Inquisitor and Sailor outlaws add neutral choices.

Manchuria
Manchuria is a Definitive Edition hybrid map based on Northern China’s Manchurian coast. Cliffs overlook substantial fish stocks, while Yaks and trees are scattered across an otherwise open landscape. Wood can be scarce, and the Trade Route’s position varies between a defensible location behind a base and an exposed northwest position.

Mediterranean
Mediterranean starts teams on separate coastal land masses with limited nearby resources. Every player receives a Dock Wagon, while the surrounding sea offers Fish, Whales, Treasures and islands; two Trade Routes and Royal Houses make water and route control central objectives.

Mexico
Mexico is a land-only map with a large central mesa that blocks direct movement between opposing sides. The terrain creates alternate approaches and makes a route that appears short on the minimap difficult to use for reinforcements.

Minas Gerais
Minas Gerais is a Random Map themed around the inland region in southeastern Brazil. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Mongolia
Mongolia is an Asian Dynasties random map with rich northern steppe and taiga resources, a Trade Route along the north, and an open, sparsely wooded southern steppe. Large herds supply abundant huntable Food, while silver mines and Native settlements make the north an important expansion target.

Muscovy

Nile Valley
Nile Valley is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals, themed around the Nile Delta region of Egypt and Sudan. Teams begin on separate arid plateaus beside the river. These starts are defensible, but much of the useful resource space lies in the greener valley and floodplain.

North Sea
North Sea is a northern European Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition map where teams spawn along the coast separated by a vast open sea of resources. Water defines the main divide, while exact shoreline, resource clusters and settlement locations vary with generation.

Northwest Passage
Northwest Passage divides teams with Arctic ice and a dangerous naval passage. Cree, Inuit and Tengri settlements can appear, along with Qivittoq and Sailor outlaws. Unlike a direct land approach, a crossing depends on the generated ice and shoreline, making route reconnaissance part of the military plan.

Northwest Territory
Northwest Territory is a WarChiefs river map whose central waterway branches east into two additional channels. The branching layout changes the shape of the crossings and can separate a direct route into several distinct approaches. Resources and objectives are generated with the map, so their exact positions vary from match to match.

Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia is an autumn coastal map with Huron and Stuart settlements and Harpooner and Sailor outlaws. The generated shoreline affects access to water, neutral sites and resources, so the best opening can favor land production or naval support depending on each start.

Nunavut
Nunavut is an icy Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition map from The Baltic Powers. The opposing starts are separated by cold terrain, and the map has no Trade Route. Inuit settlements, Qivittoq and Harpooner outlaws provide neutral options, but their value depends on distance and the army each player is building. Scout the actual resource paths and approaches before committing to an exposed expansion.

Orinoco
Orinoco is a WarChiefs river map with teams on opposite sides of a broad tropical waterway. At least one shallow crossing, and sometimes two, appears at the end of the river farthest from the players’ starting positions. Native settlements can include Carib, Maya and Zapotec communities, making the river approaches and the far side important for both movement and alliances.

Ozarks
Ozarks is a WarChiefs map named for the Ozark Highlands in the central United States. The geographic theme identifies its setting, while the actual resource, route and settlement layout is generated for the match. It should therefore be read as a playable map with its own positions, not as a fixed historical battle scenario.

Painted Desert
Painted Desert is an open WarChiefs map with scattered mesas, cliffs, plentiful Hunts and rich Coin deposits. Four Native settlements line the center, while Wood is noticeably scarcer than Food and Coin. A few Cows also wander among the mesas, making the center valuable even before either side commits to an alliance.

Pampas
Pampas is an original map whose play area has a tilted rectangular boundary. That shape affects how long it takes to scout across the map and where an opponent can approach from. The map’s resource and objective positions still vary, so its geometry is a planning aid rather than a fixed route script.

Pampas Sierras
Pampas Sierras is a Definitive Edition Random Map with Mapuche, Quechua and Tupi settlements. These three Native alliance options create different potential army and technology choices, while generated terrain and starting positions determine which settlement is practical to reach.

Panama

Its coasts connect the Pacific and Caribbean, while a land Trade Route and Maya and Zapotec settlements offer separate economic and military opportunities. Pirate and Pistolero Outlaws may also appear, and Spanish Treasure ships can provide Coin.

A central lake may appear on the mid-western side but is absent in free-for-all games.

Pepper Coast
Pepper Coast is a coastal Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. Mangrove marsh along the equatorial shoreline gives way to grassy uplands. Trade Routes run inland and along the coast, land and sea resources are abundant, and players begin with extra resource crates while their opponents remain close.

Plymouth
Plymouth is a WarChiefs map with an unusual starting economy: players begin with Pilgrims in place of the usual Villagers or Settlers, together with an Intrepid Turkey Scout and a Native Scout. The altered worker group and two specialized scouts make its opening different from a standard random map, so the first production and exploration decisions should follow the scenario’s actual starting setup.

Pomerania
Pomerania is a Random Map themed around the central European area along the southern coast of the Baltic Sea between Germany and Poland. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Portugal
Portugal is a narrow coastal map along western Iberia with a compact sea and two parallel Trade Routes. Fishing Boats can establish a Food economy while land forces contest the route stations, creating simultaneous naval and ground objectives.

Rhine
Rhine is a Random Map themed around the Rhineland, an area adjacent to the Rhine River in Central Europe. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Rockies is an enclosed Age of Empires III map where players begin among a mountain range. The mountains leave the northwest side open, so the map has both restricted passages and a route that bypasses much of the enclosure. Its original-game layout is also present in Definitive Edition.

Saguenay
Saguenay is a resource-rich coastal map available in summer and winter layouts. It contains extensive forests, Silver Mines, Deer, Elk and Moose on land, plus Salmon and Beluga Whales in the water. A Trade Route and Cree and Huron settlements add competition for map control, while a standard Discovery Age start may include a random extra economic building.

Saharan Routes
Saharan Routes is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. Bandits control the central Trade Routes, while two unclaimed routes around the perimeter offer an early alternative. The broad desert also contains distinctive Treasures that reward exploration.

Saharan Routes - LOST
Saharan Routes - LOST is a two-player multiplayer special-map variant of Saharan Routes in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Players begin lost in a hostile desert without the resources needed to establish a Town Center. They must preserve their starting Hero, explore for valuable treasures and build a settlement before shifting into the contest for the map’s trade network.

Sahel
Sahel is a Definitive Edition map released in update 43871 for The African Royals. Its broad, open grasslands contain limited resources, a long central Trade Route and several Minor Civilization settlements. The semi-arid theme includes scrub and woodland where Elephant herds graze.

Sápmi
Sápmi represents the Sámi homeland in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The Baltic Powers. It has no Trade Route; the Sámi settlement is the distinct neutral alliance, with Inquisitor and Highwayman outlaw options. Generated resource distances and access to the settlement decide whether an early Trading Post can be held, so scout before committing workers.

Savanna
Savanna is an inland West African map from The African Royals with open grassland, two watering holes and limited resources near each starting pocket. A Trade Route and several settlements draw players away from those safer starts into exposed central ground.

Saxony
Saxony is a Random Map themed around the forested plains area of Saxony in central Europe adjacent to the Elbe River, north of the Giant Mountains and south of the Baltic Sea. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Scandinavia
Scandinavia is a Knights of the Mediterranean Random Map with generated resource positions, routes and starting pressure. The same map name can produce different distances and access, so the opening depends on what the current layout actually provides.

Scotland
Scotland is a Knights of the Mediterranean hybrid Random Map built around its highlands, lowlands and small offshore islands. Two Trade Routes shape the economy: one follows the river separating highland and lowland terrain, while another runs farther south through the lowlands where players start. Natural resources on land are limited, so control of the routes and surrounding sea can determine whether the economy can expand. The outer islands contain Treasures and useful Wood for a coastal navy, and opponents begin close by.

Shetlands
Shetlands is a rugged island map noted for timber and flocks of sheep. A Stuart settlement and Harpooner and Sailor outlaws are available. Sheep provide a mobile Food source, while tree locations and the island approaches shape safe early expansion.

Siberia
Siberia is a Random Map themed around the Siberia region of Asian Russia. Starting positions and resource placements are generated for each match, and the map’s edges, crossings and player count affect how far armies must travel.

Silk Road
Silk Road is an Asian Dynasties map that selects one of three regional settings: bamboo forest, Central Asian desert or mountain country. Each game begins with a free Market, while existing Silk Road Trading Sites create localized objectives guarded by neutral forces. Unlike a standard Trade Route plan, players compete for these fixed sites rather than constructing ordinary route posts at them.

Siwa Oasis
Siwa Oasis is a Definitive Edition map from The African Royals, set in western Egypt. Narrow corridors and small passes divide a desert depression containing a strip of trees, freshwater oases and Salt Mines. There is no Trade Route, so the usual route-post strategy does not apply.

Sonora
Sonora is an original Age of Empires III map whose Native settlement roster can differ between the original game and later releases. Because those settlements determine which alliances, units and improvements are available, the map’s value is not defined by terrain alone. Resource and objective positions are generated for each match, so an old build order may not fit the current version or seed.

South Norway
South Norway uses mountains and fjords as terrain features and includes Oldenburg and Sámi settlements, plus Harpooner and Sailor outlaws. Narrow inlets and mountain approaches can make resource-rich positions difficult to reach or defend.

Spain
Spain is a Random Map themed around the Iberian Peninsula in Southwest Europe between the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Sudd
Sudd is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. A broad wetland divides the battlefield: teams start on separate dry islands near a Trade Route, while central islands contain additional resources and Sudanese settlements.

Svalbard
Svalbard is a sparse northern map whose description emphasizes the sea as a survival resource. No Native settlement is listed; Qivittoq and Harpooner are the available outlaw options. Water access and limited land resources make the coastline an important part of the opening.

Swahili Coast
Swahili Coast is an African Royals map where naval Trade Routes connect the East African coast with sea lanes between Africa and Asia. The map makes the water route, nearby shoreline and inland access part of the same contest rather than separate naval and land objectives.

Swedish Lakes
Swedish Lakes gives each player close access to two lakes. Sámi and Vasa settlements, plus Highwayman and Inquisitor outlaws, create distinct neutral choices. The lakes can provide nearby water access, but exact positions vary by generation.

Tassili
Tassili is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. Players fight in a cliff-ringed valley around a central oasis. Most trees are concentrated near the middle, and two Trade Routes run along opposite sides.

Texas
Texas is an original Age of Empires III map with a larger variant. Its open ground can leave long distances between starting positions, Hunts and mines, exposing workers who gather far from the Town Center. The map rewards scouting and mobile defense because an opponent can move across open approaches quickly.

Texas Frontier
Texas Frontier is a Definitive Edition map based on Texas. It begins with two defensive Towers, an infantry production building and two Copper Mines near each Town Center. Two Trade Routes, each with two Trading Post sites, cut through the open plain; Comanche and Apache settlements and Comanchero and Renegado Outlaws add land objectives.

The Arctic
The Arctic is a northern expedition map in the Definitive Edition map pool associated with The Baltic Powers. It can place Inuit, Sámi and Tengri settlements, as well as Qivittoq and Harpooner outlaws. These neutral choices create several possible investments, while generated resource and route positions make the safest opening different in each match.

The Dano-Swedish Wars
The Dano-Swedish Wars is a Historical Map released with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The Baltic Powers. The map recreates a Denmark-Norway and Sweden matchup and uses a flag-control countdown or team elimination instead of relying only on ordinary Supremacy play.

The Deluge
The Deluge represents the 1655–1660 invasion and devastation of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the Historical Map, steppes and temperate woodlands are divided by a single Trade Route, and teams start on the north and south sides.

The Eighty Years’ War
The Eighty Years’ War is an asymmetrical Historical Map: one player must defend a fortified peninsula while the other players attack it. The defender’s position and the attackers’ coordination shape the match.

The Great Northern War
The Great Northern War features a frozen coast, thick forests and two Trade Routes on the water. Abandoned resource crates can occasionally be found inland, adding secondary economic opportunities to the coastal contest.

The Great Turkish War
The Great Turkish War is a team-based Historical Map built around a city surrounded by woodland and natural resources. One team defends the city while the other attacks it.

The Italian Wars
The Italian Wars places a large river between four Italian City-States that players must capture and hold. The river and separated objectives make access and sustained control the core of the match.

The Livonian War
The Livonian War is a Historical Map added with The Baltic Powers. It begins in the Commerce Age and centers on capturing Livonian villages; players can train units from captured churches, making control of settlements part of both the objective and army production.

The Napoleonic Wars
The Napoleonic Wars compresses army preparation into a short period before teams fight over strategic points across the map. The limited setup window makes production timing part of the objective.

The Russo-Turkish Wars
The Russo-Turkish Wars uses smaller armies and several capturable objectives: Trade Sites, Factories and Fixed Guns. Victory depends on controlling these assets across the battlefield rather than only destroying the enemy base.

The Seven Years’ War
The Seven Years’ War is a base-game Definitive Edition Historical Map. Players begin in separate corners of a miniature world divided by seas and compete to control strategic points.

The Thirty Years’ War
The Thirty Years’ War is a multiplayer-only Historical Map from Knights of the Mediterranean. Players command smaller armies and compete to capture 20 villages spread across the map; the player with the most captured villages wins.

Tripolitania
Tripolitania is a land Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals. Teams begin on defensible plateaus with mines and trees but few animals, then must expand toward the valley or coast for Food.

Unknown
Unknown is a random map in Age of Empires III, available since patch 1.07. Its defining feature is that terrain and map ingredients vary from match to match: snow or desert, land or water, Trade Routes, Native settlements and different resource layouts can all appear. Definitive Edition update 13.27885 added the LOST and Survival variants. The map is intentionally unpredictable, so the selected mode and generated layout determine which plans are practical.

Unknown - LOST
Unknown - LOST is a special-map variant that combines the unpredictable Unknown map setting with a nomadic, treasure-led opening. It belongs to the Definitive Edition Special Maps set. Players do not begin with the ordinary completed settlement economy; they must explore and secure enough resources to establish their first base. Because the underlying Unknown setting can vary, the exact terrain and opportunities are not fixed between matches.

Unknown - Survival
Unknown - Survival is a special map variant in the Definitive Edition Special Maps set. It combines a resource-starved Survival opening with the Unknown map family. Players start with a settlement and workers but lack the normal natural-resource economy, so their Home City deck and starting conditions determine whether the colony can grow. Unlike Eurasian Steppe - Survival, this variant has no Trade Route Trading Posts.

Virgin Islands
Virgin Islands starts teams on two main islands with Carib settlements and a European Royal House on each. The surrounding ocean contains Fish, Whales, Treasures and two Trade Routes; wrecked treasure ships provide Coin and can increase the map’s Coin flow when discovered.

Vistula Basin
Vistula Basin is a Random Map themed around the grassland plains adjacent to the Vistula River in Eastern Europe. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

Wales
Wales has abundant Coal Mines and Whales but no Trade Route. Hanover is the available settlement; Highwayman and Inquisitor are listed outlaws. The map supports a Coin-rich land economy and a coastal alternative without route-based Trading Post income.

Wallachia
Wallachia is a Random Map themed around the Eastern European region situated on the plains along the Lower Danube, south of the Carpathian Mountains. Its in-game starts and resource placements are generated for each match.

War of the Three Kingdoms
War of the Three Kingdoms is a Baltic Powers Historical Map. It starts players in the Commerce Age and includes capturable churches that can train units, so control of buildings contributes directly to the ability to reinforce the army.

Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland is the winter Great Lakes variant. The lake is nearly frozen with only a small open pool, so naval play is limited and land units can cross the ice.

Yamal
Yamal is a Definitive Edition water map representing the Yamal Peninsula in northern Siberia. Players start on a narrow strip of land with sea inlets on both sides, restricting movement and encouraging expansion toward outer regions where Trade Routes, resources and settlements lie.

Yellow River
Yellow River can generate as either a dry-season or flood-season map, and that seasonal layout changes routes, resources and naval value. Both versions place key objectives around a central river and Trade Routes, so inspect the generated map before choosing an opening.

Yucatán
Yucatán is a named Random Map in the original Age of Empires III release. Its generated terrain and starting placements shape the routes players can scout, secure and contest in each match.

Yukon
Yukon is a northern Canadian map with cold-region terrain, forests and wildlife. The generated layout determines how quickly a player must move to replacement Hunts and how safe the woodlines and mine approaches are.
