Map character

Scout the São Francisco River and grassy plain first, then locate the eastern plateau before committing to a Coin-heavy army. The plain offers animal-rich Food, while the plateau concentrates Gold Mines; a distant mine may need an escort. Check Tupi and Jesuit sites and the Treasure guardians along the route.

What to scout

Use the plateau as a contested expansion when Coin demand is high, especially in a free-for-all where it sits centrally and is exposed. If the army can meet its needs from safer resources, secure Food on the plain first and delay the crossing. Treat Native alliances and Treasures as opportunities revealed by the generated layout.

River, plateau and resource choices

Minas Gerais divides teams around the São Francisco River and a grassy plain. The animal-rich plain encourages early Food control, while Gold Mines are concentrated on the eastern plateau. Coin is limited on the grassland, so a Coin-heavy army may need to scout and contest the plateau. In free-for-all games, the Gold Mines and plateau appear centrally, making that area especially exposed.

Settlements, outlaws and exploration

Tupi and Jesuit settlements offer alliance choices; Comanchero and Pistolero are the map’s named outlaws. Treasures can award Coin, Wood, Food or experience, and one can free a Native Scout. Guardians include Comancheros, Pistoleros, Pirates, Bandit Blowgunners and Wolves. Explore safely before committing to a distant mine or settlement. Minas Gerais was added to Definitive Edition in update 47581.
