Malaysia
Malaysia is a water-and-land map set on a peninsula between two defensible oceans. In one-on-one games, each player begins opposite one of two Trading Posts on a diagonal route; starting tin mines provide limited Coin, while silver deposits and ocean resources offer longer-term expansion. Water Buffalo and two religious sites add map-specific objectives.

Map character
Scout the peninsula and the northwest-to-southeast Trade Route early. Mark the two Trading Posts and determine which one your starting position can reach without exposing the Town Center. Check both coastlines for Whales and fishing access, and locate the Sufi and Jesuit sites before choosing whether land route control or water investment fits your civilization.
What to scout
Contest the route with enough force to keep a post, but do not let the diagonal chase leave Settlers open to raids. Since nearby Coin is limited, plan a transition toward the scattered silver or naval Coin before the initial mines run low. In team games, recheck the spawn layout because a player may start close to a Trading Post.
Trading Post access across the peninsula
In one-on-one games, the diagonal Trade Route and its two Trading Posts create a contest that crosses the peninsula instead of following one safe central lane. The opening Tin Mines provide limited Coin, so the route and scattered Silver Mines matter to later economic plans. Scout which post is closest to the Town Center and whether the route can be held without exposing Settlers. In team games, starting positions may put a player near a post, changing who can claim it first; inspect the actual spawn before copying a fixed opening plan.
Water and neutral-site decisions
The two coastlines make naval investment a separate choice from controlling the land route. Locate fishing grounds and Whales before committing to a Dock, then decide whether water security will protect a productive economy or merely divide resources away from the land fight. Water Buffalo, the Sufi site and the Jesuit site are additional map features to scout. Their value depends on the civilization and the force being planned, so compare the available alliance or resource benefit with the time needed to reach and defend the site.
