Water Buffalo

Water Buffalo is herdable livestock associated with The Asian Dynasties and Chinese Villages. It can provide from 50 to 500 Food, depending on how long it fattens, and supports up to eight gatherers. The recorded fattening rate is 0.25 per second normally, 0.5 at a Livestock Market and 1.0 at a Livestock Pen, Farm, Village or Hacienda. It has 20 hit points, moves at 4.0 speed and costs 80 Food with a 15-second training time.

Role, availability & values

Use a Village to access the Water Buffalo and keep the animal near a compatible livestock building if you want it to fatten before gathering. The building changes the rate, so choose a safe location where the animal will not be lost to raids. Gatherers collect the Food after slaughter; the animal’s potential value depends on the time allowed for growth.

Training & availability

The Asian Dynasties; accessed through a Village; 50–500 Food; up to eight gatherers; fattening 0.25/s normally, 0.5 at Livestock Market, 1.0 at Livestock Pen, Farm, Village or Hacienda; 20 hit points; 4.0 speed; costs 80 Food; 15-second train time.

Matchup & timing

Invest in Water Buffalo when the economy can wait for livestock to mature and the civilization has a safe place to keep it. Faster fattening buildings can shorten the wait, but using Food to train the animal competes with immediate production. If Food is urgently needed, compare waiting for livestock with gathering from a Hunt or another source.

Wild start and livestock yield

Water Buffalo can appear wild on Deccan, where they may be captured. Chinese access comes from the Water Buffalo Ranching card, which allows Villages to train them, or Year of the Ox, which grants one for each Village and Town Center. The animal costs 80 Food to train, takes 15 seconds and has a limit of 20. Its Food amount grows from 50 to 500. Fattening is 0.25 Food per second normally, 0.5 at a Livestock Market and 1.0 at a Livestock Pen, Farm, Village or Hacienda; up to eight gatherers can work the carcass. Because the yield depends on time and building, decide whether the animal should be tasked to a fast-fattening site before you need immediate Food. Its 20 hit points make it easy to lose if left exposed, and an animal killed before it matures returns only a fraction of its possible value. The profile belongs to The Asian Dynasties and later Age III content.

Cards, limit and fattening plan

The maximum train limit is 20, and Water Buffalo generates a small 0.12 XP per second while alive. The Chinese Water Buffalo Ranching card allows Villages to train them; Year of the Ox grants one per Village and Town Center. Eight gatherers can work a mature carcass for its 500 Food. Fattening at a Village or Farm runs at 1.0 Food per second, four times the animal’s 0.25 natural rate, so choose a safe livestock building if time permits. Deccan’s wild herd can be captured rather than trained.

Gathering and Experience notes

Water Buffalo also generates 0.12 XP per second while alive. A Livestock Market doubles its natural fattening rate from 0.25 to 0.5 Food per second, while a Village, Farm, Livestock Pen or Hacienda raises it to 1.0. These rates change the time required to reach 500 Food, not the number of gatherers; up to eight Villagers can harvest the mature carcass.

Asian livestock and fattening

Water Buffalo are herdable livestock associated with The Asian Dynasties and Chinese Villages. Each can provide 50 to 500 Food depending on how long it fattens, and up to eight gatherers can harvest it. The base growth rate is 0.25 Food per second, increasing to 0.5 at a Livestock Market and 1.0 at a Livestock Pen, Farm, Village or Hacienda where supported. Keep the animal near a compatible building and protect it while the Food value grows.

Food investment and Village access

A Water Buffalo costs 80 Food and takes 15 seconds to train through a Village in the recorded profile. The investment competes with immediate Villager or military production, so choose livestock when the economy can wait for a later Food return. Use the faster building rate if available, then assign up to eight gatherers when the resource is needed. If Food is urgent, compare the wait with gathering from a Hunt or another source. The animal has only 20 hit points, so a safe livestock area matters.
