Map character

Put the starting Fishing Boats to work while scouting smaller islands and safe crossings. Place the Dock Rickshaw with the shoreline in mind and protect the fleet; both naval access and land movement matter across the divided terrain.

What to scout

Japan can exploit the supplied water infrastructure immediately, but the starting fleet is worth protecting. Add land forces to secure island approaches rather than assuming the central island controls surrounding waters.

Use Japan’s starting naval advantage

The long central landmass and nearby islands divide the approaches. Japan starts with a Dock Rickshaw and three Fishing Boats, so begin water gathering while scouting safe crossings and island resources. Protect the boats and place the Dock where it can support both fishing and naval defense. Keep a land force ready for approaches that ships cannot secure.

Opening ships, island mines and water Treasures

Honshu starts players with a Dock Rickshaw and three Fishing Boats, making an early water economy immediately available. The main landmass is bordered by smaller islands with Gold Mines and Treasures, while separate land on either side contains a short Trade Route and the rare Giant Salamander. Water Treasures can be collected without fighting guardians. Protect the starting boats and scout the island approaches before investing in a larger fleet; the gold-rich islands are valuable expansion sites but can expose workers far from the Town Center.
