Wales
Wales has abundant Coal Mines and Whales but no Trade Route. Hanover is the available settlement; Highwayman and Inquisitor are listed outlaws. The map supports a Coin-rich land economy and a coastal alternative without route-based Trading Post income.

Map character
Scout Coal Mines early and compare their worker travel and safety with the Coin gathered from Whales. Since there is no Trade Route, do not plan route stations into the opening; inspect Hanover’s alliance options and use ordinary map control instead. A navy can protect boats and shoreline, but still needs land support.
What to scout
Build an economy around safe Coal or Whales according to the generated layout, and secure the source before committing heavily to Coin-cost units. Use Hanover to fill a real army need and protect the Trading Post. Keep enough ground forces to defend workers and avoid investing in a fleet that cannot protect gathering or enable a landing.
Coal, Whales and mercenary access
Wales has abundant Coal Mines, making Coin easier to generate than on many maps. It has no Trade Route, but Whales provide another resource objective and Hanover is the available settlement. Highwayman and Inquisitor are outlaws. Coal can support mercenary-dependent builds, although workers and ships still need to reach and defend those resources.
A hybrid economy without routes
Scout Coal Mines early and compare land Coin with the risk and time of gathering from Whales. Since there is no Trade Route, do not plan on Trading Posts along one; use map control and Hanover instead. A navy can help secure the coast, but should support a broader resource plan. Wales is a hybrid map in Knights of the Mediterranean.
