Gold Coast

Gold Coast is a coastal Random Map from Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – The African Royals, themed around modern-day Ghana. Lake Volta and forested plateaus break up grassland and scrub. Its defining economic rule is that gold mines are the only source of Coin, while a naval Trade Route creates an offshore contest.

Coast, lake & economy

Akan and Yoruba settlements are listed on the map. The naval route can be controlled from the ocean, but there are no whales. Lake Volta and central forested plateaus create defendable resource areas. Scout Coin mines early before choosing a composition that depends heavily on Coin.

Coin and naval trade

Protect access to mines because losing the only Coin source can disrupt unit production and research even when other resources remain. A Dock and naval force may contest trade income; Akan or Yoruba alliances provide land-based options through their settlements.

Practical direction

Check mine locations, Lake Volta, the plateaus and naval Trade Route before choosing an opening. Protect Villagers at the mines and avoid overcommitting to the sea while the land economy is exposed. Do not base a plan on whales; naval value comes from trade and other available resources.
