Map character

Scout the nearby resource pockets and narrow clearings before committing to a wall or forward base. Dense trees block direct movement and there is no Trade Route, so locate a usable corridor and one of the Royal House sites before pushing into the forest. Check whether the match uses Arena or Forest Nothing, since the variants alter the layout.

What to scout

Secure nearby resources and a clearing early enough to avoid being boxed behind the trees. A wall can protect the economy once the approach is known, but it cannot replace control of the narrow passages. Expand toward Bourbon, Habsburg or Wittelsbach only when the force can hold the corridor; do not plan an opening around Trade Route income.

Narrow clearings and no Trade Route

Dense trees form natural barriers across the Black Forest and force battles through narrow clearings. Small resource pockets are scattered through the wooded terrain, and there is no Trade Route. Royal Houses can offer another strategic objective. The map’s forest changes movement and vision, making scouting the openings important before an army commits to a narrow corridor.

Variants and expansion timing

Bourbon, Habsburg and Wittelsbach settlements are available. The map has Arena and Forest Nothing variants, which change the playable layout and should be treated separately when planning openings. Walls can help protect an economy behind the forest, but waiting too long to claim resources may leave a player boxed in. Secure nearby pockets and a usable clearing before expanding.
