The Dano-Swedish Wars is a Historical Map released with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The Baltic Powers. The map recreates a Denmark-Norway and Sweden matchup and uses a flag-control countdown or team elimination instead of relying only on ordinary Supremacy play.

Historical setting & objective

The victory condition is to hold every flag long enough to trigger the countdown, or defeat the opposing team. Flag control is therefore the central objective: scout the approaches, capture flags with enough force to hold them, and watch the countdown once the team has secured the full set. Do not divert the whole army to chase an opponent if that leaves a flag exposed. Walls cannot be built on this map, so use the terrain, units and existing defenses to protect positions. The game recommends British, Danes, Dutch, French, Germans, Poles, Russians or Swedes; check the match lobby for the selected civilization settings before preparing a build order.

Civilization & match plan

Prioritize mobility and a force that can split without losing the ability to retake a flag. If the full flag set is secured, shift from expansion to denial: reinforce the most vulnerable approach and remove enemy units attempting to interrupt the countdown. If flags are contested, keep a reserve that can respond to a capture instead of committing every unit to one side. Team elimination remains an alternative victory route, but flag control can end the match without destroying every enemy force. The Danish and Swedish setting identifies the historical sides; the recommended civilization list also permits several other European civilizations for the matchup.

Read the scenario rules before choosing a plan

The Dano-Swedish Wars is a Baltic Powers Historical Map associated with Denmark-Norway and Sweden, and the Danes are the featured civilization. The available information identifies it as a historical matchup but does not establish a universal control objective for every ruleset. Before committing to a build order, read the in-game briefing for the permitted civilizations, starting conditions and exact win condition. Use the map’s objective to decide whether the first army should contest a location, defend a route or pressure the opponent, rather than assuming standard Supremacy rules apply. Keep reinforcements close enough to support the Danish force where control is contested, and adapt once the match reveals which routes are decisive. This page describes the historical scenario at a high level; the active match briefing remains authoritative for its settings.
