Historical maps

Historical maps are objective-driven Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition maps based on early-modern European conflicts. Their scenarios can set special rules such as eligible civilizations, maximum Age and starting resources, so they play differently from an ordinary random-map match.

Mode & version

The exact victory conditions and battlefield rules belong to each map. Depending on the scenario, players may capture villages or strategic points, defend a city, contest a Trade Route, or attack a fortified position. The Thirty Years’ War is multiplayer-only; the other listed maps can be played in single-player or casual multiplayer. Read the map’s rules before choosing a civilization or build order.

Rules & map selection

Use these pages when planning a match whose objectives override standard economic or map-control assumptions. Identify the assigned role, allowed civilizations, age limit and starting resources first, then organize the army around the objective and its deadline. These are historical scenarios within Age of Empires III, not campaign missions.

Each map has a different victory condition

The Seven Years’ War uses a majority-control countdown for Trading Posts or flags, and captured Dry Docks support naval play. The Thirty Years’ War is a multiplayer village-control contest: capture 20 villages and hold the lead. The Italian Wars asks players to capture and hold four City-States across a river. The Eighty Years’ War gives one player a fortified position to defend against three attackers and a timer. In The Deluge, teams face each other across a single Trade Route, with the southern side needing to withstand early cavalry pressure. The Great Turkish War is a city defense and assault; The Great Northern War places two Trade Routes on a frozen coast. The Napoleonic Wars compresses preparation before a strategic-point fight, while the Russo-Turkish Wars focuses on Trade Sites, Factories and Fixed Guns. The newer Livonian War and War of the Three Kingdoms add capturable villages or churches, while The Dano-Swedish Wars provides another Baltic historical matchup.
