Bahia

Bahia is a Definitive Edition Random Map introduced with The African Royals. It is based on the Brazilian coastal region. Players begin close to one another, with a long cliff separating the starting areas; the map’s early Food supports opening economies, while the northeastern coast becomes important for later resources and the Trade Route.

Map character

Scout the cliff and the available passages before planning an early attack or defensive wall. Food is plentiful near the starting areas, but additional natural resources and the Trade Route require expansion toward the northeastern coast. Bahia lists a Jesuit Mission settlement and the Comanchero and Pistolero outlaw units. Their precise positions, treasures and guardian groups depend on the generated match.

What to scout

Use the cliff to understand which approaches are actually open, but do not treat it as a complete barrier: identify the route around or through the terrain and watch for pressure while expanding. Secure the coast before the opponent claims its resources or route posts. A civilization that can defend a forward Trading Post or safely escort settlers may convert the long-term coastal economy into an advantage.

Early Food, later coastal expansion

The starting region provides abundant Food, so the first economic constraint may shift as the match progresses. The map description emphasizes extending northeast to reach further natural resources and the Trade Route. Plan a protected route for settlers and place vision or a small force on the approaches; an expansion that is rich in resources can still be lost if the opponent controls the cliff crossings.

Jesuit settlement and local outlaws

A Jesuit Mission settlement gives players a Minor Civilization site to evaluate for alliance access. Comanchero and Pistolero outlaws are listed on Bahia, but their presence is a map feature rather than a guaranteed army composition. Scout their camp and nearby treasure guardians before sending an Explorer or Villagers into the area. The Jesuit site, outlaws and route posts are separate tactical opportunities, so prioritize them according to the army and economy you are building.
