Northwest Territory

Northwest Territory is a WarChiefs river map whose central waterway branches east into two additional channels. The branching layout changes the shape of the crossings and can separate a direct route into several distinct approaches. Resources and objectives are generated with the map, so their exact positions vary from match to match.

Map character

Scout the river junctions and both eastern branches before choosing where to cross or place forward production. Identify the points where land can move between banks, then check whether the opponent can reach the same crossing from another channel. Keep a route between the army and its base open; a path that looks short on the minimap may lead to a dead end at water.

What to scout

Control the crossings that connect your gathering area to the opponent’s side, and avoid committing the whole army to a single branch. A mobile reserve can respond if the enemy uses a different channel, while scouting prevents workers from being stranded on a bank without reinforcements. Recheck the generated layout each match rather than memorizing a fixed attack path.

Scout the river branches before crossing

The river divides movement, and its two eastern branches create several possible crossings and dead ends. Scout the junctions before sending siege or placing forward production. Check whether an opponent can approach the same crossing from another channel and keep a fallback route open. Generated resources and objectives vary, so use the current layout rather than a fixed placement guide.

Player count changes the rivers and Trade Routes

Northwest Territory’s eastern branches and smaller river vary with the match size. In free-for-all games the smaller river disappears and only two Native Trading Posts remain; two-versus-two layouts can have more resources, especially Fish. Two Trade Routes run across the map, with one or two Trading Post sites on each island. Nootka is present, while Klamath or Cree can also appear under the updated roster. Scout the current crossings and island sites before placing walls or forward production, because older routes do not fit every layout.
