Eurasian Steppe - LOST

Eurasian Steppe - LOST is a multiplayer special-map variant of Eurasian Steppe, introduced with the Definitive Edition special-map set. It scatters each player’s small starting force across the steppe and removes the normal Town Center opening. Players must explore, collect enough Wood and have their Heroes and Villagers establish the first base. The start is intentionally less predictable than a standard Age of Empires III match.

Map variant & availability

The initial groups include only a few of the civilization’s usual units and an extra Scout, placed apart across the map. Heroes and three Villagers are central to gathering the Wood needed for a Town Center; after it is built, players do not receive their usual starting crates and Villagers. The map retains the Eurasian Steppe setting and its Jagiellon, Oldenburg and Tengri settlements, as well as its regional Outlaws. The absence of an ordinary starting economy makes Home City cards and the first safe construction site unusually important.

Starting rules

Keep the starting Hero alive and bring scattered units together only when doing so makes treasure collection or base construction safer. Prioritize enough Wood to place a Town Center, but scout guardians and rival expeditions so the first builders are not caught alone. Choose a deck that can support the map’s opening rather than assuming the standard crates and initial Villager count. Claim a useful Native settlement or Trade Route after the base is operating; the immediate bottleneck is establishing it.

The first objective is establishing a Town Center

LOST removes the normal Town Center start and separates the small opening force across the map. The starting Hero, Scout and three Villagers must explore and secure enough Wood to place the first Town Center. After construction, do not expect the ordinary starting crates or an extra batch of Villagers. Preserve the Hero and protect the builders, because losing either the exploration support or the first construction group can delay the entire economy.

Reunite the scattered force around a safe route

The map begins with a few civilization units and an extra Scout positioned apart. Bring them together when it makes treasure collection or the first build safer, but avoid spending too long regrouping while the required Wood remains unsecured. Once the Town Center is operating, expand toward the Jagiellon, Oldenburg or Tengri settlement and the Eurasian Steppe Trade Route that best fits the civilization. This variant’s opening is fundamentally different from the standard Eurasian Steppe start.
