Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is a Definitive Edition — The African Royals Random Map themed around the African Great Lakes region. Resource and starting positions vary by generated game; the recorded Minor civilization settlements include Somali and Sufi, giving players two distinct alliance options to scout.
Map character
Explore the actual layout before choosing an opening. Locate safe Food and Coin, map edges, crossings and objective sites; player count and map generation determine their positions. A Trading Post at the Somali or Sufi settlement provides access to that alliance’s available units and technologies, so compare the roster and site location before investing.
What to scout
Use the settlement choice to fill a need in the civilization’s army, but only if the Trading Post can be protected. Confirm whether a Trade Route or water economy is practical in the generated layout before committing to a Dock or shipment plan. Keep workers near a safe retreat while scouting beyond the starting area.
Choose between the available alliances
Somali and Sufi settlements offer different alliance options, and the best choice depends on which units or technologies complement the player’s army. Scout both sites early enough to compare distance and exposure. Securing a distant settlement can cost more in defense than its roster is worth, so pair the alliance decision with a realistic plan to hold the Trading Post.
