Congo Basin

Congo Basin is a land Random Map in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, added in update 13.690. Dense rainforest forms narrow corridors between clearings, and teammates share a starting clearing. Reaching an opponent means navigating a maze of passages, so the map naturally favors defensive positions and deliberate pushes.

Rainforest corridors & sites

A Trade Route lies north of the Congo River, while Jesuit and Yoruba settlements occupy forest clearings. Corridors limit how quickly armies reinforce one another, and clearings are important spaces for gathering and building. Scout entrances and access to settlements before moving Villagers or the main army into the forest.

Moving through the jungle

Use the choke points to protect a base or stage a push, but remember the opponent can defend the same way. The northern route and central sites offer objectives beyond the corridor fight. A Native alliance may add options, though a deep Trading Post is difficult to reinforce if its approach remains contested.

Practical direction

Map the lanes, choose one approach for the main force and maintain vision along it. Avoid splitting units into separate corridors where they cannot support one another. If teammates share a clearing, coordinate structures and rally points so buildings do not block movement. Advance with protection rather than sending units into unseen paths.
