Map character

Scout the mountain range west of the sea, the forest cut-through and the narrow eastern passage before choosing a defensive front. The mountain blocks direct early attacks until a route is opened through the trees. Check Sufi and Tengri sites and coordinate ships with a land force near a possible landing.

What to scout

Use the forest passage as a direct land route only when the army can hold both ends; otherwise the original mountain barrier buys time. Keep vision near the far eastern passage to detect a sneak attack. Naval control matters when it secures a landing or denies one, not as an isolated fleet objective.

Mountain barrier and water approaches

Caspian Sea is a hybrid map added in Definitive Edition update 19.18309 as part of The Baltic Powers. Teams start west of the sea, where a mountain range blocks direct early attacks. Cutting through the forest opens a route through the mountains, trading a protected approach for a direct land path. Naval control offers another way to secure landing areas for an army.

Watch the far eastern passage

A narrow passage in the far east can support a sneak attack. Scout it early and keep units or vision nearby to notice a flank. Sufi and Tengri settlements are available, with Crabat and Cossack Daredevil as outlaws. A fleet is valuable when it protects a landing or denies one to the opponent; ships without a coordinated land force may not turn sea control into pressure on the town. Adapt defenses to the mountain cut, eastern passage and shoreline.
