Yamal

Yamal is a Definitive Edition water map representing the Yamal Peninsula in northern Siberia. Players start on a narrow strip of land with sea inlets on both sides, restricting movement and encouraging expansion toward outer regions where Trade Routes, resources and settlements lie.

Map character

Scout the two water branches and locate the route out of the starting peninsula before placing forward buildings. A Tengri settlement offers the listed allied access, while Cossack Daredevil and Wokou Horseman Outlaws can appear. Because the opening territory is narrow, identify where the opponent can cross or attack along the shoreline before moving workers outward.

What to scout

Expand early enough to reach additional resources and the Trade Route, but bring military support along the narrow approaches. Secure an outward path before committing to a distant site, and avoid blocking your own reinforcements with static buildings at the peninsula entrance. Use naval options only when the generated shoreline and water access make them useful.

The starting peninsula is a staging area

Yamal’s narrow start limits how much economy can remain close to the Town Center. The inlets create natural flanks, but also make movement predictable until players reach the broader outer areas. Scout ahead, establish a safe route for workers and keep a mobile force able to respond on either side of the water. The map’s Tengri settlement and Trade Route become important expansion objectives; securing them is easier when the army advances with the economy rather than arriving after workers are already exposed.
