Gran Chaco

Gran Chaco is a land Random Map in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, themed around Bolivia’s central Chaco Plain. It is unusually open and has no Trade Route, so the central hunt and exposed approaches matter more than route-based Trade Posts.

Terrain, wildlife & settlements

Rhea and Guanaco provide huntable Food, while llamas can be tamed. Small ponds interrupt the open lowland but do not form a continuous barrier. The map lists Mapuche, Quechua and Tupi settlements, plus Pistolero and Pirate outlaws. Scout the generated positions before choosing a path.

Opening and map control

Contest access to the central herds and llamas; there is no Trade Route to anchor an early Trade Post plan. Open sight lines make raids easier to spot but also leave workers exposed. Native settlements offer a separate alliance objective.

Practical direction

Spread vision across approaches, escort Villagers gathering far from the base and avoid assuming the ponds protect a flank. Check the central wildlife before committing to a hunt and visit a settlement only when the Explorer can retreat safely.

The central hunt replaces route pressure

Gran Chaco has no Trade Route. The early contest instead centers on Rhea and Guanaco herds and tameable llamas. Its hot, semi-arid plain is open, with only small ponds breaking the terrain. Herd and starting positions vary, so scout before selecting a gathering area.

Separate settlement and outlaw encounters

Mapuche, Quechua and Tupi are the listed Minor civilizations; Pistolero and Pirate are outlaw types. Settlements can be used for alliances through a Trading Post, while outlaws are hostile encounters. Identify both before sending the Explorer deep into the map.
