Map character

Scout the central land strip and both coasts before choosing a Dock or a land expansion. Nearby Zapotec or Maya villages create an early Native-alliance choice, while the long shoreline can divide attention between fishing and inland Hunts. Keep the opening force close enough to defend whichever coast the opponent contests.

What to scout

Build a navy when it can protect fishing or control a useful shoreline; a Dock on the far coast can change access to both sides of the map. If water control is uncertain, secure nearby Food, Wood and the local Native site first. Use the Explorer to collect accessible Treasures without leaving the central land route open.

Coasts, Native allies and tropical resources

Yucatán is a tropical random map with a central land strip and sea on both sides. Each player begins near either a Zapotec or Maya village, providing an early Native-alliance choice close to home. The map’s long coastline creates a strategic split: ships can secure the nearby shore and protect fishing, while a Dock on the far coast can open access to both sides and make naval control much more consequential. Dense forest keeps Wood available, and Tapir and Capybara herds provide distinctive huntable Food alongside other local wildlife. Treasures are common enough that an Explorer’s early route can contribute resources and experience while revealing the shore, Native settlement and safe expansion points. The map therefore connects land and naval play rather than favoring a single fixed opening. Before investing heavily in ships, inspect the distance between the starting coast and the opposite shore; a far-side Dock is powerful only if it can be protected. Likewise, secure the nearby Native village early if its alliance matches the army plan, while leaving enough Villagers to maintain the ordinary Food and Wood economy.
