Settlement & allied options

A Trading Post at the settlement unlocks the alliance. Inca players use a Tambo for the same purpose. The listed allied roster includes Maya Holcan Javelineer, Healer, Maya Holcan Spearman (former). Its settlement offers these technologies: Maya Cotton Armor, Maya Calendar, Maya Pyramids. The available roster and technologies can vary with the selected map and release.

When to ally

Scout the map for a Maya settlement before spending resources on an alliance. Use it when the listed unit or technology fills a need in the army or economy, and protect the Trading Post that provides access.

Food economy and infantry durability

Maya Calendar is an Exploration Age upgrade costing 120 Wood and 120 Coin for 10 seconds of research. It improves Villager Food gathering from hunts, Mills, Farms, Food Rice Paddies, Fields and Haciendas by 10%, and increases Hacienda automatic Food by the same amount. Maya Cotton Armor also costs 250 Wood and 250 Coin and researches in 10 seconds; it adds 20% hit points to Hand infantry and, since Definitive Edition update 14.43676, Foot archers. These upgrades support the Food economy and infantry durability respectively.

Maya Pyramids and the American Citadel

Maya Pyramids is a Commerce Age settlement technology costing 400 Wood and 400 Coin with a 60-second research time. It delivers an American Citadel Travois, which must travel to a valid location and then spends 50 seconds constructing the free American Citadel. The reward is the wagon, not an instant completed building, so choose a site the army can protect.

Minor settlement access

Maya is a minor-civilization settlement rather than a standard playable Maya civilization. A Trading Post on the settlement unlocks its options; an Inca Tambo can provide the same settlement access, and the listed Maya Pyramids route also includes the Native Embassy. Scout before researching and distinguish these settlement technologies from a separate civilization technology tree.
