Rice Paddy
The Rice Paddy is an Asian renewable economy building where Villagers gather either Food or Coin. It lets Asian civilizations move beyond finite Hunts and mines, with access depending on the civilization and release.

Function
An Asian Villager or Rice Paddy Rickshaw can establish one for 400 Wood. Up to 10 Villagers gather from a Paddy, and its selected mode determines which resource it supplies. It serves as a renewable source while workers remain assigned.
Placement & timing
Set the resource mode to match the next unit, technology or age-up cost, and switch when the army plan changes. Protect gatherers and avoid building several Paddies before you can afford the Wood and workers to use them.
Renewable Food or Coin production
Rice Paddy is an Asian economic building available in the Exploration Age. It costs 400 Wood and takes 20 seconds to construct, with up to ten builders able to contribute. It has 2,500 hit points, line of sight 12 and a 2-by-2 footprint, though its placement obstruction extends across a larger area. Asian Villagers or a Rice Paddy Rickshaw can establish it. The Paddy is an infinite source of either Food or Coin; choose its mode to meet the next age-up, unit or technology cost, then switch when the economy’s priorities change. Up to ten Villagers gather from one Paddy, so its value depends on assigning enough workers to use the investment. It can replace reliance on finite Hunts and mines, but the 400-Wood cost competes with housing and military infrastructure. Keep gatherers protected and build additional Paddies only when worker supply and Wood income can sustain them. Chinese, Indian and Japanese access may differ by release, so check the civilization’s building roster before applying a generic plan. A Rice Paddy Rickshaw offers an alternate construction source where available.
Switching the gathered resource
Food and Coin modes should follow the next spending need. If the army needs units, set the Paddy to the resource those units cost; if an age-up is near, redirect workers to its required mix. Ten gatherers can work one structure, so avoid assigning more than the supported limit. A Paddy’s renewable supply can stabilize an economy after nearby Hunts or mines are depleted, but it takes 400 Wood and worker time to establish. Use it as a long-term source and protect the Villagers rather than expecting instant resources on construction.
Asian civilization access
The building is part of Asian civilization economies, but access and available builders can differ. Chinese, Indians and Japanese players should confirm the current roster and use the Rice Paddy Rickshaw when that source is available.
Worker assignment
Ten Villagers can gather from a Paddy. Assign enough workers to justify the 400-Wood construction cost, but preserve labor for military production and other resource sources.
Flexible economy
The Paddy’s Food or Coin setting lets Asian players sustain production after natural sources are exhausted. Change the mode as the army or age-up plan changes, rather than leaving workers on a resource that is no longer needed.
Flexible Asian Food and Coin economy
The Rice Paddy is a renewable Asian economy building where Villagers can gather either Food or Coin. Its selected mode lets a player shift the same worker base toward the next unit, technology or age-up requirement without moving to a new source. A Paddy costs 400 Wood, supports up to ten builders during construction and provides an infinite supply of the chosen resource. Asian Villagers and Rice Paddy Rickshaws can build it in the listed contexts. The building is therefore an important long-term investment, but changing resource mode does not remove the need to protect workers or maintain enough Wood for military infrastructure.
When to change the Paddy mode
Choose Food or Coin according to the next spending plan, then switch when the army or age-up changes. Food can sustain Villager and unit production; Coin may be essential for cavalry, mercenaries, technologies or advancement. A 2-by-2 Rice Paddy takes workers and 400 Wood away from immediate needs, so avoid constructing several before there are enough Villagers to use them. Its 2,500 hit points help it remain in the base, but gatherers can still be raided. Place it close to protected paths, spread workers if a single attack could disrupt the economy and compare the available rate upgrades for the current civilization and version.
