Maps

Texas

Texas is an original Age of Empires III map with a larger variant. Its open ground can leave long distances between starting positions, Hunts and mines, exposing workers who gather far from the Town Center. The map rewards scouting and mobile defense because an opponent can move across open approaches quickly.

Map character

Reveal the routes between both bases and locate replacement Hunts and mines before the starting resources run low. Track exposed Settlers when they travel to distant sources, and note where the opponent can cross into the economic line. Compare the map variants and the actual resource placements in the generated match; do not assume every game has identical distances or a fixed opening route.

What to scout

Use mobile troops to cover distant gatherers or raid an unprotected resource line. Expand in steps so the army can defend each new site, and place production where reinforcements can reach the exposed approaches. If holding the center becomes too costly, preserve a safe retreat to the Town Center and shift workers toward resources the army can protect.

Manage the distance between safe resources

On an open map, the cost of a resource site includes the time workers spend walking there and the distance the army must travel to protect them. Scout replacement sources early, then move workers before the original Hunt or mine is empty. A mobile force can cover a wider area than a static defense, but it cannot be everywhere at once; group expansion around routes that remain connected to production. Use the larger variant’s extra space as a reason to plan vision and reinforcement paths rather than sending workers to the far side without support.
