Scandinavia
Scandinavia is a Knights of the Mediterranean Random Map with generated resource positions, routes and starting pressure. The same map name can produce different distances and access, so the opening depends on what the current layout actually provides.

Map character
Scout from the Town Center for nearby Food, Coin and safe Wood, then check whether this generation includes a Trade Route, Native settlement, coast or crossing. A settlement can add units or technologies if it is present; coastal access can support fishing or transport but may also expose the economy to naval pressure.
What to scout
Choose the opening after exploring the actual start instead of relying on a fixed build order. Protect gatherers near contested routes, and place a Trading Post or forward building only where the army can respond to raids. If the map gives a useful coastline or crossing, add naval investment only when it serves a protected resource or landing plan.
Random map scouting and opening decisions
Scandinavia is a Random Map included with Knights of the Mediterranean. Because it is procedurally generated, resource positions, routes and starting pressure can vary between matches; do not assume one fixed build order or identical herd locations. Begin by scouting from the Town Center with the Explorer, locate nearby Food and Coin, and identify safe wood access before committing to an expansion. Check for the Trade Route, Native settlements, coastline and crossings, since those features can alter which civilization bonuses or Home City cards are valuable. A Native alliance may add units or technologies if the settlement is present, while a Trade Route can reward early control. On coastal generations, water access can create a second economy or a transport route, but it also means an opponent may reach the settlement by ship. Choose the opening after checking the actual map rather than relying on the map name alone. Protect resource gatherers near contested routes and use vision to avoid placing a Trading Post or forward building where it can be raided immediately. The linked Random Map, Map scouting, Trade Route and Treasure pages explain the systems that shape a Scandinavia match.
Adapting to generated terrain
Because the map is randomized, resource clusters and travel distances vary. Adapt the opening after scouting rather than applying fixed build timings. If coin or food is distant, protect the route and consider a different expansion plan. A coastline or crossing can make naval transport valuable, while a land-focused generation rewards early Trading Post and Native settlement scouting. The same map name can create different matchups, so use the actual terrain to decide where to place buildings and how to defend workers.
Exploration Age checklist
Use the Explorer to identify nearby Treasure guardians, natural resources and trading opportunities before placing a fixed building. A randomized generation can make a normal opening unsafe, so adapt after scouting.
Map selection and scouting
A suitable Home City deck should match the terrain actually generated. Confirm whether water or a trade route is present before selecting cards that depend on them, and adapt the civilization opening to the resources revealed by the Explorer.
Flexible opening
The Random Map name identifies a map family, not a guaranteed layout. Scout resource clusters, settlements and routes each match before deciding whether to expand, build a Trading Post or commit to water.
