Research at a Factory costs 250 Wood and 250 Coin and takes 30 seconds. The Factory must be assigned to Food for the upgrade to produce its stated benefit. Factory access and operation depend on the active civilization and game mode.

Cost and prerequisites
Research when the Factory is producing Food and the match will last long enough for the added output to repay the cost. If it is assigned to Wood or Coin, compare the value of changing its assignment with the value of Cannery. An idle Factory or a short remaining match makes the upgrade less useful.
